Dan the Automator - Wanna Buy A Monkey? - desertcart.com Music Review: Rocking it - Album came in excellent condition, in protective packaging. Classic hip hop album produced by an almost legendary dj/producer. This album not only chronicals some of the amazing projects he's worked on, it's put together in an excellent flow that keeps you listening until it's end. A true masterpiece for fans of old school and underground hip hop. Review: Buy the monkey - Fantastic album. So glad itโs still available to purchase

A mixtape session of far-flung proportions
This is a hard album to recommend to a person. It's not that the album isn't any good - it's easily Dan's best offering in the past couple of years, since the Handsome Boy Modeling School record at least - it's just that it's a sampling of Dan's tastes and his tastes are all over the place to say the least. He's produced some great tracks over the years, so any chance you get to see what Dan might put on at a party at his house is a compelling trip you can't help but at least get your feet wet on. It's even a hard record to suggest to fans of Dan's work if they happen to approach this album from only one source of awareness about what he does as a producer/composer. If you're only hip to his Dr. Octagon work, you'll find some track son here, but if you dig the dreamier "Lovage" record, he's also got you covered. I'm sure someone at Sequence thought it would be a great way to get people caught up on Dan who may be just coming to his catalogue, but it's about as diverse as a mix tape gets, so don't think that you're going to be getting the next Lyricist Lounge or something. It's underground flavored, but his flavors are WAY underground. All assumptions aside, it's a very good record. it has some spots that I don't dig, but there's so much variety here that it's one of those rare records that actually makes you feel smarter with each listen. You definitely have to hit it with an already open mind, since the songs aren't picked to be charttoppers, but mind-boppers. You have to have a pretty developed sense of musical awareness coupled with a wide appreciation for differing styles (kind of like the Vikter Duplaix "DJ Kicks" record, but even more underground and hip-hop drum trashy), but it pays off in great dividends.

A *barely* classic rap/mixtape CD that's pretty original - It will most likely "wow" you in places - you'll probably love it
Dan The Automator's "Wanna Buy A Monkey?" is just a great great rap/mixtape album. The production is dead-on here with the first 3 songs being extremely hard hitting and fierce (and fun!)! Musically it's several different songs by different rap groups which Dan mixes together pretty much flawlessly. What makes "Wanna Buy A Monkey?" stand out, however, is how GOOD it is (plus HOW many good songs are here). The songs "Rockin' It" and "Smoothness [Encore Freestyle]" are fantastic tracks. Thankfully there aren't any fillers here, either, which helps the album flow if you wish to play it all the way through. "Destiny" and "The Rhumba" are arguably the worst tracks on the album (though for "Destiny" I basically just don't like the female vocalist). It also has some mainstream appeal, but rap fans especially will love it. If it weren't for the first 3 songs I would've given it a "4.5". If you liked this album I would also recommend Swollen Members' "Bad Dreams" as well as U.N.K.L.E.'s "Psyence Fiction". Highly recommended! Highlights include: everything except "The Rhumba" and possibly "Destiny"

Dan the Automator Doesn't Dissapoint
This has to be one of his best works I think. i loved Hansom Boy and then I bought this cd. This cd has music for every kind of occasion. Just pop this in the cd player and chill with it. There is no need to skip around on this cd. Each song blends nicely into each other, so really I think this cd is one long track. The artists on it are also very different. From Bobby Digital from the Wu Tang Clan to Air, everyone who buys this will be very happy about the purchase. This is one of my favorite cds in the Hip Hop genre. This mixtape is a great job done by Dan. So spend your $... now to get it. You won't be sorry for long, infact you won't be sorry at all.
