For the price, you cannot go wrong with this filter, even with the quirks. That said, I wouldn’t use this as a primary filter, but rather as a supplement for extra media storage and surface skimming. I’ll explain why later.Pros:-cheap-adjustable flow. Can run at a trickle.-I like the translucent grey color. You can see inside and when dirty, not as noticeable as with something clear or something completely black.-thin profile as opposed to filters like marineland.-surface skimming ability-quiet if set up properlyCons:-The filter box is not easy to change because it’s attached to the impeller housing, but all the water is pumped through the filter box and the frame can be modified.-at low flow, the skimmer doesn’t work-at high flow, the skimmer can suck air making the filter noisy.- the adjustable knob seal isn’t the greatest. Needed to play with it to not allow air in.-the spout doesn’t really have a lip so the water goes down as opposed to the surface. This could be something good depending on your setup.-the thin profile does make the filter a bit wide.Some of the issues could be with the particular unit I had. The bigger one might be a better deal, but don’t need it yet. If I needed something in a pinch, maybe I’d try because it’s so cheap.

This is written after installation.You may use the small intake and not use some parts if you wish. The control valve still works just fine. It is extremely quiet, compared to my Aqueon filter, it's just as silent. Virtually no noise. The only complaint, and if you buy this filter do not think it's faulty. You have to fill the filter and keep filling it until it flows on it's own. With my Aqueon filter I've added media and with this filter I don't think I'll have to. If you're just getting into the hobby I suggest using this filter for no more than a 10 gallon. If you use filters more powerful than the gallons you have, you're able to cultivate more beneficial bacteria, and "overload" your tank with minimal water changes. This filter fits beautifully in my 5 gallon. My tanks get water changes 1-2 times per week. My water stays perfectly clear and balanced. Just a tip. Great product, I would say "for the price" but honestly it's comparable to top filters out there, and the filter media it comes with is adequate enough I didn't have to add my own which is more than I can say for Aqueon, and that's my go-to brand.

This filter is by far the best HOB filter I have. From aqueon, top fin, tetra and others, this unit here is the most silent and efficient out of all of those from my experience. I will be buying more of these to replace all the others I have soon.

Great little Hob filter EVERYTHING can be taken apart and Cleaned. The triple filter is a sandwich of coarse and fine .ALL removable with very little hassle the stream is decent and consistent not a raging waterfall , very silent . ill update in time. at 10$ Buy it !

This filter was beyond disappointing, The water ran and stopped the motor was way loud and would run even though no water is filtering this entire filtration system is a hot mess I am completely disappointed that I wasted my money buying this.

Overall, this is not terrible. It is average size, not too thick for a HOB.The issue is the noise it makes. There is an issue with it making noises from the filter intake. It is like full suction is never achieved. I know it is making me nuts, I can't swap it out fast enough for the sanity of my fish!

I didn’t expect it to work so great considering how cheap it was but it’s the best dang filter I’ve ever had and I’ve went through ally of filters ! I use it for my turtle tank and only have to clean it every other week!!

It takes minutes for water to be sucked up to start the filter process. Sometimes it just keeps turning but water is not being sucked in to the container. 132 GPH is a big joke ! Was it 13.2 GPH?? The cheap price justifies its quality and most of all, performance. Go for the Marina with almost the same price, its way way better !
