Whether your character is jumping for joy or grappling with an opponent, this book provides all the essential techniques to draw more lifelike action figures in the classic Japanese manga style. The comprehensive introduction first shows the reader the physical anatomy of male vs. female figures and gives important tips on proportions, perspective and small but often-overlooked details such as the relative differences between male and female hands, fingers and feet. Five subsequent chapters cover over 40 action poses in the following categories: Chapter 1: Action (e.g. running and jumping) Chapter 2: Martial Arts (e.g. punching and kicking) Chapter 3: Interacting (e.g. judo holds and high fives) Chapter 4: Weapons (e.g. swords and knives) Chapter 5: Reacting (e.g. dodging a punch or taking a punch) Each pose and movement is illustrated with a rough sketch outline followed by a highlighted manga drawing containing detailed annotations by the author. After studying the sketches, you practice the drawing techniques in a tracing section at the end of each chapter. Each chapter also provides professional tips on the use of color and shading for greater realism. Special sections contain information and tips on particular topics of interest, such as how to draw clothes, hair and facial expressions or how to create special effects. At the end of the book, an actual 6-page comic strip gives readers the opportunity to practice what they have learned by filling in the missing elements. Review: A very good guide for drawing manga style action poses! - Hello, first and foremost, this is a review from a mangaka (manga artist). I am a self-taught webcomic manga style artist who publishes my own webcomics for almost 3 years now. And until now, I am being honest that I am still an amateur in drawing action poses. Here are some points that I can put out from this book. 1. This book is originally printed as Japanese. Ive been wanting to purchase this for so long but the price is higher, you check it out on ebay at a price of 30$ and above. So seeing that this book is now translated and printed in English, and is way much cheaper with the same content on it. This is a jackpot for me. 2. Contents seems a little advance, but this is a how-to-draw manga book and not just pose references, you will definitely learn a lot from this, (such as perspective, good way of using panel shots or focus line, hair movement, the use of speedlines, blurring effect, dynamic poses, and even expressions are tackled here. 3. Martial arts such as grappling, judos were also shown in a little here. Different weapons too such as nunchucks, spears, sword, hammer poses etc etc. You will also find a tracing samples that you could practice on. So for an advance digital manga comic artist like me, I highly recommend this book to be added to your learning tools if you are serious in learning MANGA style action poses. Review: Action Manga good to add to your collection. - Love this book. I been getting different drawing books how to books lately. This one is a great addition. I only skimmed through it so far but it's actually what I was looking for. Its a nice size book. It focus on action moves. How to draw them out. Shows how the body should flow even how the clothes should look.

Exactly what you expect it to be
Buy it! Like the title says, this is exactly what, you expect it to be. It teaches you the basics of human anatomy and proportions, how to create dynamic fighting stances, how to show the impact blows amd pain, how to clothe figures in action scenes, how to panel, how to drag environment so damage and more. The art style here is more realistic and I feel that whats taught here can be more broadly applied than with other similar books.

Good but unfortunately torn cover
Love that it’s way thicker than most anime drawing books but sucked that it’s torn cover. Things happen but overall it really is what my teenager has been looking for for Christmas

Finally a good how to book
Got this for a comic idea and to practice drawing poses. I had bought a book that was supposed to be for how to draw hero’s and it was all about history and not drawing. I love the fact this book is about art and not a history lesson about hero’s

Really good for beginners and intermediate artists
This guide is very well written and has great explanations for its professionally drawn poses and facial expressions. I love following the instructions and trying difficult poses. One of my favorite is the anime character carrying another on his back. This book is 5/5
