Parents always want to know how they can teach their children about personal safety without instilling fear and yet still get the important message across. Pattie Fitzgerald has taken her highly regarded childrenโs curriculum and created โ Super Duper Safety School โ to do just that. Written with empowering child-friendly language, the main character โSammyโ helps parents and kids start the dialog by using simple rules that make sense to children. Sammy explains each rule using a straight-forward concept of โ thumbs up and thumbs down โ awareness. Super Duper Safety School teaches children how to be the โ boss of their own bodyโ, how to watch out for โtricky peopleโ and how they can be safe around people they know or donโt know . Also included is a comprehensive Parent Education Guide to help parents understand their role and how they can significantly minimize the risks to their child. Super Duper Safety School comes highly recommended by pediatricians, teachers and parents as a valuable resource in educating children with an effective approach that works! For ages 4 and up. Review: BEST book for teaching about tricky people! - THE best book about "tricky people"! It lays everything out very directly and covers all the important topics. Other books I got were too vague, this one explains everything in a way preschoolers can understand without being too scary or frightening. Review: Highly recommend - This book and her other one, are both great books for preschool-age kids... Easy concepts but covers more than just "stranger danger". I like how this book explains the concept of "tricky people", secrets vs. surprised, safety rules, and gives specific strategies of what to say or what to do in different scenarios (like if you're lost in the store, here's what you do and here's what you don't do). You can read it all in one sitting, or break it up if your child's attention span isn't that long, or read only the parts that might apply to you. We read a page, then talk about it, and practice saying the words, like "I need to ask my mom first!" or yelling "NO!" It's not scary to my 3-year-old and the pictures and multiple colors and fonts keep her interest. It also has a Parent's Guide with red flags, prevention tips, etc. Highly recommend this book!

A must have book for all children
My oldest child just turned 4 and I really had to have a solid safety talk with her. My research led me to the concept of โtricky peopleโ vs strangers, and it just makes so much more sense. I only touched upon this topic with her once in a while, and I noticed the stranger danger concept confused her. It confused me. I didnโt know how to answer certain questions in a way that made it clear to her. My daughter loves this book. It uses language she understands and is interested in. I almost love it more for myself. I had no idea how to approach this topic in a way that would be helpful for her to understand when a situation is not right. Itโs taught me language to use and how to address questions she has following the โthe rulesโ described in the book. I finally have the confidence to be able to talk to her about this awful topic. I can confidently answer her questions without confusing her. I had trouble finding books that were age appropriate. Some books are a little much with what they talk about. This book had the perfect balance of a loud and clear message with age appropriate images and language. She loves to role play scenrarios in the book or new ones, and we talk about how she responded. I will 100 percent use this for my son when he is older. This book is absolutely necessary for all children.

Every parent NEEDS this book!
If you love reading books to your kids and teaching your children through reading books, this book is the perfect addition to your home library! I have two girls, 5 and 8 and this book was an incredible addition to our homeschooling curriculum. Teaching my children who is safe and who is not is pretty difficult since they are neurodivergent and social skills like trust are a little difficult to teach when you don't want them to fear everything. This book offered an idea that I had never even thought of - if you are lost in a grocery store or anywhere.. FIND A MOM WITH KIDS! Absolutely huge! You might not think that is something significant but I do. Seriously add this to your library! No matter the age of your children!!

Wonderful and helpful and also liked by my kid
This book is great. I have recommended it countless times to other parents, and calling predators โtricky peopleโ was the wording I never realized I needed. Itโs the perfect way to reinforce to my kid that predators are people who make choices and deliberately try to fool other adults from seeing those choices by telling kids to keep secrets. I knew how crucial it was to impart this information to my child (having been the victim of โtricky peopleโ myself) but not knowing how to do it in a way that wouldnโt create fear of everyone. This book was the perfect solution. In Dutch culture, parents choose to train children how to survive risks instead of avoiding them (early swimming lessons, how to safely ride bikes in traffic, etc), and this book really reminded me of that mentality: โHereโs the risk, hereโs what to do if you encounter that risk, and itโs never your fault if youโre exposed to this risk.โ I wish I could personally thank the author/publisher for putting this together.

Great, easy reading book for teaching kids about safety!
A pretty awesome book for teaching your kids basic safety rules. It talks about safety for who and who to go to for help. I really like how they talked about the "tricky people" vs. strangers, because they may need to seek help from a stranger. I also like how it talked about thumbs up and thumbs down touching. It made talking to my little kids a lot easier. I would totally suggest this book for kids starting as young as talking!

Tricky People - Teach Your Kids About Them!
I just finished reading this book to my almost six year old. I should have read it to him years earlier! It is a great book! It's seems like there is so much emphasis on keeping privates private lately, which this book covers....but I forgot to emphasize to watch out for strangers. This book gives over this so well. I love the detail on tricky people. The book goes over everything so well with also captivating your little one's interest. My LO had questions and comments throughout the book. It really allowed us to have great discussions on staying safe while not scaring him. There is also a parent guide to keeping our kids safe in back of the book. This is the best spent money ever! I highly recommend this book!

Bought this and โNo Trespassingโ - Wonderful Books To Keep Children Safe
This book is wonderful! Look no further for how to have these tricky conversations with your child. I bought this when my daughter was almost five. She understood completely and seemed excited that she knew how to stand up for herself. One in four women will be molested or assaulted in their lives, and one in twenty boys. Have this conversation before itโs too late. Thank you Patty!!! Her website also has great information as does the Parent section of the book. My fife year old daughter ran from me a lot the mall about nine months ago and four teenage boys brought her back to me. The whole ordeal was the scariest two minutes of my life. After I read this to her, she understood how dangerous that situation was. This book helps your children stay safe without telling them too much. At some point children have to understand that not everyone means well or can be trusted, and this explains safety rules without getting into the scary stuff.

Print errors
Good content but some of the pages are not right, not aligned and out of order. Really not acceptable for the price.

... kids about personal safety at a level that was easy for them to understand and also not frighten them
I found it difficult to speak to my young kids about personal safety at a level that was easy for them to understand and also not frighten them. I didn`t want them to be afraid of strangers, and this book perfectly provided the words and examples I needed. Also, they both love reading the book, and responding to the questions posed. I like how the book explains tricky people, and that they`re defined by their actions, rather than labels such as stranger.

This is a great book and my almost 4 year old daughter really ...
This is a great book and my almost 4 year old daughter really gets the idea of tricky people. It makes sense to her and she has retained the information well. Good colourful pictures help too. It's by an American writer so has a few cheesy phrases, but the logic behind not telling children to avoid talking to 'strangers' is sensible because they see us as adults doing this every day. The book teaches children how to identify 'tricky people' which is far more useful to them.

Great
Sensible rules which replace the outdated and frankly terrifying 'stranger danger' advice of old. It teaches kids to remain friendly but alert to their own discomfort if the rules are at risk of being broken. Simple and non-threatening.
