Review: What a great value 5-disc box set! - I've had my eye on this box set of 4k HDR Pirates of the Caribbean for some time now, so I snapped it up when it went under £50 (£10 per disc)! Starting out strong with The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest, starring Bill Nighy as the iconic Davy Jones, the first two films in the series are masterpieces of adventure and fantasy. The third instalment, At World's End, continues the epic storyline with impressive set pieces and complex character arcs. While the narrative becomes more convoluted, the visual fidelity in 4K makes it a spectacle worth revisiting. The climactic battle is exceptionally breathtaking in a 4k format. On Stranger Tides, the fourth film shifts the focus to a more self-contained story. Although it lacks some of the original trilogy's charm, the focus on Jack's escapades, inner thoughts and the mermaids stands out as a highlight, benefiting greatly from the improved resolution and dynamic range. Finally, Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar’s Revenge) wraps up the collection. While it is divisive among fans, the UHD version beautifully showcases the elaborate CGI and fast-paced action sequences. Javier Bardem’s portrayal of Captain Salazar is haunting and vivid. The inclusion of standard Blu-rays alongside the UHD discs is a welcome addition for those who may not yet have a 4K setup. Overall, this box set is an excellent addition to any Pirates of the Caribbean fan's collection, offering a visually stunning upgrade to these beloved adventures. At this price point, it is a steal, and the quality of the 4K HDR presentation makes it worth every penny. Highly recommended! Review: Terrible 4K Transfer with DNR - The quality of the product is perfect and the Blu-ray are great. The 4K transfers are worse that the normal blu-ray. They look muddy and have a weird frame blending. Do not buy this for the 4K transfers. It's not worth.

4K Review: Good but Disney Needs to do better!
Ok where do i start, These films definitely do look great in 4K, Demo worthy? No! But they definitely look good. Let’s start with The first Movie, The review sites absolutely tore this movies transfer to pieces and was it warranted? Yes and No. First off, Disney have applied DNR (Dynamic Noise Reduction) to the transfer, why? I have no idea, The original Blu-ray looks beautifully filmic with grain but not enough to create a disturbance to the viewing. This transfer has scrubbed away fine details and i cannot for the life of me figure out why they used it, It is not like the film is 100 years old and the masters are damaged. Now onto the overall clarity, and picture quality, The film looks great in some spots and too soft in other spots due to the DNR I am guessing and it has had a weird dark filter applied over it so it definitely looks darker when compared to the bluray but it is not as bad as some people have pointed out. Overall for a 4K release i would Give Curse of the black pearl: 4/10 From Pirates 2 onwards things get better and the picture quality does not suffer nearly as badly as the first movie, Colour changes have been applied here and there and the HDR generally supplies a nice Colour lift to the picture and highlights those once overblown scenes on the now ageing blurays. Dead Mans Chest: 6/10 At World’s End: 6/10 On Stranger Tides: 7/10 Salazar’s Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales): 8/10 Overall a rather confusing release from Disney, The Atmos tracks although a little quiet sound great on a decent surround sound system or headphones and the picture quality can vary at times, For such a popular franchise you would think more love and care would have been put in to this Release but instead they have left Home Video enthusiasts with more questions. Curse of the black pearl needs a new master and it needs a completely new HDR overhaul and get rid of that horrible DNR, Nobody likes DNR being used in movies that have been shot on film.
