LED Bulb for Mag Lite 3D 4D 5D 6D 3C 4C 5C 6C Cell Flashlights Bulb Upgrade

Dithered about buying one of these LED lamp upgrades for a few years. Should have done sooner. What a difference. My Maglight is usable again and much more powerful. There are brighter modern torches with fancier lenses but few carry the weight and presence of a D cell Maglight. Illuminates the bottom of the long garden and across the next field. Looked at all the options and chose this version and I am not disappointed. Should have better battery life too.

The bulb arrived promptly (within 2days). It was very easy to install, taking approximately 5mins. I would recommend popping some grease or WD40 on the screw threads of the torch before putting it back together. My maglite must be over 30 years old so was a little stiff to open. The grease eliminated the tightness. I use my torch when walking the dog in winter months. It is the 3cell version. This bulb has TRANSFORMED my torch!! The bright white beam is VERY POWERFUL. I managed to eliminate the black spot in the middle of the beam by slightly twisting the head of the torch. This gave me a perfect direct beam that also included a useful surrounding glow. The distance of the main beam was impressive too. WARNING Be careful if you are using your new bulb/torch in public (like I do, walking the dog) pointing this beast in a persons/animals face will cause instant temporary blindness at short to medium distance. I don’t turn mine on now when near a road just in case any oncoming traffic get dazzled. I never had to worry about this issue with my old incandescent bulb. I never thought I would ever pay this kind of money for a bulb!! I’m glad I did. It was probably cheaper for me to buy another torch? But I couldn’t bring myself to dispose of my trusty well made sturdy maglite. I’m hoping that the bulb will last the test of time? I’ve only been using it a week so I can’t comment. Easy to install in my 6 cell Maglite. Much brighter than original bulb. also lesser wattage means batteries last much longer. Can fully recommend.

Got this to convert my old 3 Dcell Maglight . There are U tube videos which are good for explaining how to fit it. Very pleased with the result, much brighter beam and a whiter light.

I’ve had a Maglite 4 D cell torch for years. It’s lovely engineering, but not particularly bright. For work, I always used modern LED torches, much smaller, brighter and more convenient. A friend suggested converting the Maglite to LED, and this item seemed a good choice. Easy to fit - just unscrew the bezel, unscrew the incandescent bulb, replace with the LED (fits exactly) and replace the glass. The difference is amazing. It’s only rated at 2W, and I was concerned it might not be very bright, but it’s amazing. I can light up trees 200m away and the beam can be focused very tightly. There is still the annoying artefact (like a hole in the beam) if you twist the focus to a wide beam, but I can live with that. It’s still better than the incandescent bulb pattern. Best of all, I get to keep my beautiful Maglite, with its size and weight and simple on/off button (no more cycling through endless settings you never use just to turn it off). I’ve fallen in love with it again. Delivery within 24 hours. Not cheap, but highly recommended.

Haucht der alten 3D Maglite neues Leben ein. Deutlich heller als die Glühlampe. Der Lichtstrahl lässt sich sehr klein fokussieren. Beim Defokussieren enststeht, ebenso wie mit der Glühlampe, eine eher ringförmige Abstrahlcharakteristik.

20年ほど前に購入した３Ｄ（単１Ｘ３本）のＭＡＧライト。 十分に明るいと思っていましたが、近年のＬＥＤライトに比べると流石に暗い。。。 純正のＬＥＤモジュールを探しましたが、どこも品切れ、取り扱い終了で見つからず。 とりあえず純正以外で３Ｄに使用できるＬＥＤモジュールということでこちらを購入しました。 本来の性能を発揮するには６セルの９Ｖとのことですが、定電圧電源を使って４．５Ｖ～９Ｖまで変化させてみましたが、特に輝度の変化は感じられませんでした。（正確には明るすぎてわからない^^; ） ３セルでも使用できるということは、おそらく定電圧・定電流回路が組み込まれているのでは無いか？ と勝手に判断しております。 取り付けは特に問題なく、純正球と入れ替えるだけ。 電球単体で比べてみると若干ＬＥＤの方が光源が高く、ソケット側への光がカットされるので配光に不安がありましたが、全く杞憂でした。 照射光も粗悪なものは青みがかって、かえって暗く見えますが、この商品はちょうどよい白さで視認性も良好。 ほとんど車が通らない夜の道路で、約50ｍ先の反射案内板と5ｍ先のセンターラインをビーム、ワイドで照らし、比較してみました。 流石にＬＥＤは光量があるのでビーム状態では反射板からの反射光が凄い！ しかも純正球ではほとんどわからないセンターラインや路側帯のラインまで照らしています。 ワイド状態でもその差は明らか。真っ白な光が広範囲を照らしてくれるので、実用性が格段に向上しました。 ただし、それなりに発熱はあるので耐久性は不明。 ＬＥＤチップの発熱がどれだけ放熱されるか？ですが、このあたりは装着する器具の構造に左右されるかもしれませんね。

They are easy to fit and improve the luminosity dramatically. When you need light they are what you need. They are a little expensive but if you have old maglights they give them a renewed life. I haven’t tested them for longevity but hopefully they will last

If your orginal Maglite has a bulb that has a smaller diameter at the LED end and a larger base, as per the picture, then this bulb is a great replacement. It's way brighter than the original bulb and very easy to install. I gave longevity a ratting of 3 only because I just installed it and therefore I don't have an informed option.

So, the pictures didn't show the bottom of this, I just saw a chrome cylinder - then I removed the lens of my Mag Lite, lifted the reflector out (don't touch the shiny part, or the inside of the glass - you'll drive yourself nuts trying to get the fingerprints off - friendly warning). Next, you remove the retaining nut, which is a chrome tube that screws down to secure the bulb into the base. Lift the old bulb out, and this bulb fits perfectly within the cylinder walls and drops back into the same place the old bulb was. Replace the retaining nut - and don't do like I did and look at the LED when you hit the button. Yeah, you'll see spots for awhile. The old bulb lit up, and it was fine for walking along a sidewalk at night - THIS is way more than the old bulb could ever hope to be. I was thinking "just 300 lumens". I'm guessing my old bulb was pushing around 50 lumens. The circuitry is kind of the unsung hero. Whether they are using pulse-width technology, or a charge pump, or a constant current/variable voltage supply design - I'm not sure. What I do know is that this will drain the last bit of energy from your batteries, and I mean that in a very positive manner. Normally, your battery voltage drops - the bright light becomes dimmer over time; until it's too dim to be useable and you replace the batteries - even though the batteries may have 50% charge remaining. That's a lot of charge to go to the landfill. Using one of the above designs - which are built into the bulb, you not only get more light - the batteries last about 2x as long, and you drain the batteries of all useful life. I'd call that a good win
