Brilliant product.
I wanted a camera doorbell for a long time. Three reasons; 1: I live in a flat and there are a lot of dodgy characters hanging around the block. 2: Loads of chuggers and Jehovahs knocking on the doors (less lately obviously) 3: People seem to have the annoying habit of banging on the door with their knuckles rather than using the letter box. Drives me nuts. Now a new 4th reason....delivery drivers who now feel it's appropriate to throw parcels on your doormat and run without even waiting to see if anyone is home! I obviously knew about the Ring products but did not want to start drilling holes and stuff, then by accident came across this which I never knew existed. Just brilliant. It is so easy to install, unscrew and remove the peep hole (no loss as could never reach it anyway) and replace it with this, very easy to do, took me less than 10 minutes to fit, they even provide a tool to remove the peep hole. They also include a adapter for the hole so you can get a perfect fit. Very clever and so easy. The batteries only last me about 2 weeks as I have the motion detection set on high, no point otherwise is there? The first charge for the batteriy is about 6 hours but they seem to charge much quicker after that. It has been brilliant since I got it, app is sometimes a bit glitchy and sometimes there is a delay but overall it has been good. Have already caught a strange person knocking on doors and has already saved one of my parcels from being stolen, I have had it for just under 6 weeks. They see the camera and then don't bother. The only thing I don't like is that after the first initial month you need to subscribe to Ring to get recordings , it is £2.50 a month or £24.99 if you pay for the year in advance, I feel this should be free but have signed up as it is worth having. Really glad I got it.

Easy to install - exactly what’s needed
So far so good! Had the Ring door view delivered on Amazon Prime next day. When it arrives it comes in a very nicely presented box with a Ring branded sleeve cover. Inside you get everything you need to setup and start working straight away. After downloading the ring app on my phone and creating an account it literally took minutes to install into my existing peephole with no issues. The install was quick and easy anyone could do it no drilling or wiring literally unscrew push in and tighten on . The install looks neat and very modern and also feels very secure. The motion detection and knocking feature has notified me instantly as expected so far with great notification responses and live view over WIFI or 4G on my phone. Battery life is what I expected, I get a very high number of notifications around 60 a day due motion alerts where I live. But the battery over the course of 6 days has lost around 26%. This I don’t think is bad considering I check every alert and live stream periodically through the day. Due to this reason I have purchased an extra battery to cover the times when this is charging, I’d estimate a full charge could last a month with a busy doorway easily. When I first got the device I charged it for a few hours before plugging it in (this was not a full charge) so had around 73% when installed. So I’d recommend leaving it in for the 5-6 hours it states online to get to 100% before first use. Overall this Ring door view seems to do everything that’s stated on the packaging as described! It’s a must for private renters like myself. With no drilling, I can easily remove the device and replace with the existing peephole if I were to move. It is a little on the expensive side but for the positives it brings I can’t really think of any negatives. On a note I do have a outside light so can’t comment on the night vision, but the daytime viewing looks very clear. Rather than buying a Ring chime product to hear the doorbell when press, i have linked it to my Echo Plus speaker. So for any doorbell presses or motion Alexa will alert me with a chime and voice notification. This paired with an Apple Watch notifications means I’ll never miss the door again! One thing that worried me was the though of the device being stolen, but if you have the Ring plan (£2.50 a month at the time of this review) you are covered. The device would save the video to the cloud if anything happened to the device and Ring will replace one device for free if stolen. And also I think if anyone tried to rip the doorbell off it would make the unit unusable for them as the battery and connector would stay on the inside of the home out of reach. The device is not as big and obtrusive as I originally anticipated, can’t complain as it’s a lot more sleek than the original Ring devices. Overall I’d defiantly recommend getting the Ring door view. It offers peace of mind knowing your front doors covered with cloud based recording with 24/7 viewing.

Very happy with this product and i'm glad its back
First and foremost, I'm delighted that Ring has reintroduced this product. It's a welcome return, considering the significant demand in the market, particularly for apartments/flats where traditional smart doorbells may not be suitable. This device performs really well, boasting a commendable battery life and straightforward setup process (comes complete with tools). I love how I can still use the peephole functionality. I've utilized the Ring app and found it to be highly responsive, seamlessly transitioning from other tasks to provide a view of who's at the door. However, one drawback worth noting is its lack of compatibility with Apple HomeKit, which may be a concern for users invested in that ecosystem. The convenience of directing delivery drivers to leave packages at my door, especially when paired with Ring's smart intercom, enhances the whole experience of this device. Yet, there's room for improvement in its actual doorbell visibility, as visitors unfamiliar with Ring products may struggle to locate the doorbell, as it blends in a little. Maybe including a sticker indicating its location could alleviate this issue, That said I appreciate the feel of the button's rubbery texture and shines a blue circular light when pressed. Furthermore, the doorbell's loudness and excellent image quality are noteworthy positives. While the audio performance could be enhanced, overall, I'm very satisfied with this product.

Great gadget. A couple of minor gripes and one larger one...
Loved this. Wish we'd bought one before. We've bought the Door View Cam version to go through the existing spyhole (which we never use). Tip: IMO this is the better location to install the camera from several points of view, including the 'point of view' (centre square and best viewing angle height - on the front door) + the hot-swappable battery is then on the inside of the house and a reasonably strong metal pipe (replacing the old spyhole lens) anchors the device on the inside + no need to use the wired version of this gadget (which in our case would have meant a considerable amount of work with our electrician to place a transformer + cables anywhere near the front door + hiding all the cables mess that comes with it. And so having this Door Cam version of the product + spare battery (£18) solves that problem and leaves the device more reasonably secured on the door with the battery safely on the inside and easily swappable for the spare. We love all features of the device (covered in all the other reviews) but the video clips online aspect and the app software for reviewing clips is very well made as is the installation instructions that come with the app. I would recommend you download the app and follow those instructions (including video clips) and don't go by the 8 page paper 'manual' included (which is OK but doesn't highlight that there's a retaining seal/selofane wrapper around the connection wire which you pull through the spyhole to attach to the battery compartment on the inside of the door. IE This is much more visible on the app/instructions videos - and is well done by Ring. The only gripes so far (which don't warrant losing a star but could be improved, hopefully with a firm/software update) are: 1. No control (that I can find at least) on the outside ring style. The default is very 'tinny' and sounds dreadful up loud. 2. You can turn down the outside ringer volume but this also turns down the talk audio volume. These should be two different controls as we want to be able to talk loud enough for visitors (on a reasonably busy street) but we don't want the terrible ringer chime going off, every time some rings the bell. I would prefer to turn the chime off entirely on the outside - but can't see an option for that anywhere. 3. Final gripe is over the cost of having the ring.com system maintain two devices instead of just the one. The £2 per month for the first device (if you want the extras + video clips stored online/retrievable for 30 days) is probably reasonable enough (and very reasonable if you need it) but you can't add another device at £2 which we would do except the minimum charge for "more than one device" is £8 per month - which is not at all reasonable, unless you were planning on surrounding your house inside and out with Ring web cams etc in which case it's probably very cheap again - but Ring should add a simple £2 per cam charge and can it at £8 for lots, instead. A more serious gripe, as mentioned elsewhere, is the time to connect to your mobile phone. The sensor is good, so you get a pre-warning (just) but unlocking your phone, clicking the notification link and waiting for the video feed to come through before you can say anything is very slow - but not 2-3 minutes (!) I've read elsewhere. It might take 10-20 seconds but that's a lot in some scenarios. In our case, we work from home and can't always answer the door so we have found that the Windows 10 desktop app is very good and much quicker for this: We get a motion detect outside, click on the live view link and can even intervene a visitor before they even press the doorbell (subject to having the right outside audio setting in place, see earlier comment). Overall: love the gadget. Very well designed, built and documented in the app. Works very well for most scenarios but the outside bell chime needs some additional controls/thinking as does the connection time from bell to mobile + additional costs for 2-4 gadgets.

Check prices before purchase - read review - great product
This is a great product and quite easy to fit. It does what it says on the box. However "BEWARE" check prices especially on Amazon - it was listed originally at £119.99 - the next day it was the same product for £49.99. That is a great price but to drop £70 overnight is not acceptable for someone who paid the original price...

Brilliant Door Cam
I am so glad that I bought this Ring View Door Cam, the picture is so clear and depending on background noise, the sound is excellent, the motion detection is awesome, my garden gate is 12ft approx. from my front door where my Ring Door View Cam is, if I set the motion detection two foot back from the gate, it will still detect movement outside of my garden, knock detection is adequate, but doesn't always work. A schedule can be put in place using the app, if there are certain times that you don't want to be notified of movement, the video quality can also be set to HDR, which does use more battery power, but I've not used it yet and I find the picture quality excellent, there is a motion frequency section in settings and you have 3 options, 1. Frequent - captures and notifies you about every movement (shortest battery life) 2. Standard - captures and notifies you about movement less often (standard battery life) 3. Light - captures and notifies you even less often (maximum battery life), I have mine set on standard, I've had it a little over a week and my battery is sitting at 87%, that battery useage includes playing around with it when I first got it, the battery, out of the box takes exactly 6 hours to get to a full charge. My door has raised panels on it, so is different thicknesses in different places, I neglected to measure the place where my peephole actually was, which is thinner than the requirements for the Ring Door View Cam, I've managed to make temporary adjustments for now, but I've been in contact with Ring on Facebook and made a couple of suggestions, they are really good, they're very responsive, they will always answer within a few hours and they said that they wil pass on my suggestions of either a shorter securing nut or a spacer panel for the back, on to their management team. I had a bit of a problem with the app in as much as I couldn't scan the installation code om the rear unit during setup, but you don't need it, you just put in your address and postcode and do it that way, I mentioned the problem with the app to Ring and they thanked me and said they would pass it on to the developers, it is very easy to set up. The app itself is very intuitive, it's easy to understand and to use, there are many settings to go through to enable you to to set it to your own requirements, be careful with the ribbon on the end of the cam when you put it through the peephole, as it's quite fragile, I didn't think that I'd need the spare ribbon that comes with the bell, but unfortunately, I did, fitting the spare one was fairly easy though, but again, be careful when handling it, I couldn't see spare ribbons in the Ring Shop on their website, so I asked them about it and they said that if I ever needed another one, just to let them know and they would send me one. I didn't purchase an extra Ring Door Chime as I didn't feel that I needed it, the ringer is in the outside unit, but it has a good volume to it, the app will also let you know by ringing when the doorbell is pressed and sounding a tone when there is motion outside your door, the sounds both for the doorbell and the notifications on the app, are customisable. So in summing up my review, I feel that the Ring Door View Cam is an excellent product, definitely worth the money. and in my own opinion, Ring Customer Service is second to none, I hope that this review helps people to come to a decision when purchasing their first or next door cam and if you're hesitatiing because of the price of £179, all I can say is, in todays world, what price security?

Really helpful for disabled people but very laggy and misses motion of people on driveway
I am disabled and have CFS/ME. I wanted one of these for a while as due to my illness for extended periods I’m bedbound and I’m not able to get to the door for parcels etc so would be good to speak to and see who is there from my bed. I bought this one as it had the privacy zones option where you can ‘black out’ certain areas of your street. My house is on a small cul de sac directly facing a house across the street and I was reluctant to get a previous model in case they had issues with privacy. With this model, I’ve blocked out their house so no problems in that area. It was incredibly easy to install, my door is a composite door and it must have been at the top end of the thickness range as the doorbell only just fit through. I followed a tutorial on the app which showed step by step what to do. Easy peasy. It’s been installed since yesterday morning, so a day and a half and I wanted to leave this review as I was a little disappointed with it. It has pre set settings for motion detection sensitivity and range which are set in the middle. I am getting notifications each time a car drives past my house into the cul de sac (I have a drive and garden in front of the road) or when someone walks past on the pavement. What I didn’t get was a notification when someone pulled into my drive! I did get a notification that someone came into the house but it was so late that they were already in by the time I opened up the app. This wasn’t a burglar, just a carer but I thought how ridiculous! So the app seems very hit and miss as I would expect a notification the moment a car pulled up. So I have maxed out the motion sensor sensitivity and range to see if that changes things and I will update accordingly. I got mail yesterday and the sensor didn’t pick up the postman, or if it did he had gone by the time I got the notification. Another thing is lag. It is extremely laggy. There is a few seconds delay on the stream and then it takes a few seconds for the app to open, so in that time people have come and gone. I’ve gotten a lot of notifications and opened the app and there is no one there, so I think it’s not quick enough to catch a postman. I have high speed internet, the router is literally right next to the front door. It is useful because of my condition i can see who is at the door. If I had a visitor or a parcel, they would stay there longer than 6 seconds, I would hope. I have updated the settings so I will update my review when I have tested it more. Edit 1 (Day 2) - I’ve realised that my doorbell motion sensors are being activated by birds, butterflies and just now, heavy rain. My neighbour has a bird table so it explains the countless motion notifications and no one being there when I’ve opened up the app, only birds. Edit 2 (Day 3) - It did not alert me to the binmen this morning coming onto the driveway to collect my black bin. So I’m unsure of its ability to be a security camera. Edit 3 (Day 4) - Today I got a motion notification when a bee flew into the camera. But again, when a car pulled into the drive, no motion detection. This person knocked the door, and I did get an instant knock notification which was good and I asked her to help me test the bell. She pressed the bell and it took 3 seconds to chime for her and then another 3 seconds for my phone to ping. So again, very hit and miss. It’s the motion detection of cars and people on the driveway that’s the problem. After posting my review, someone at ring contacted me and I am speaking with them on Friday about fixing the motion issues. I will update. Edit 4 (Day 5) - the doorbell continues to notify me of cats walking across my driveway and birds flying across my garden but another visitor coming onto the driveway in a car and walking up to my door doesn’t generate a notification. Again, I did get a notification when they knocked which is something. No contact as yet from Ring in the US.

Consigliato!

Nice
Worth it! Easy to install on the peep hole. Easily get the battery to charge. Just be sure you have spare batt, so you can charge while using the other. Just be aware of some community that doesn't allow to use it in UAE.
