Speck Products SeeThru Case for MacBook Pro 13-Inch with Retina Display

I bought mine used through the Amazon Warehouse for like ten bucks. It lasted a solid thirteen months and, for the price, I'm very satisfied. There's no reason for the new products to be priced as much as they are, but the warehouse has so many used options for every color that it doesn't really matter. A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop. It was a really hard fall. I figured I had to have broken something. But it was fine! Proof of the case's value anyway. But a piece of the case chipped away and ever since then, it's almost like it's been slowly decomposing. I find new little pieces of plastic on the floor every couple of days. I feel like it was fatally wounded in battle. But it died doing its duty to my expensive laptop so its service will forever be appreciated. Anyway, I'm picking up another used case today for twelve bucks and hoping I get another good year out of it.

I've dropped my Mac from 5+ feet off the ground (it fell out of my bookbag while k was walking, jacka** friend unzipped my laptop pocket) onto concrete, and it saved my laptop. The case cracked and scratched, but my laptop was perfectly intact except for one bend in the Ethernet port (but it still works fine). This case saved my laptop, I firmly believe it's the best one out there.

Been a customer of Speck since my 1st Powerbook in 2005. Case always lasted life of the product (or longer!). The date of this reviewposting is: 12/27/16 No more. Ordered this $30 10/16, it arrived early 11/2016 for immediate install on a adult-owned laptop. No transport, not even within house. No drops, bumps. Never seen inside of a backpack or carry on, never met a TSA agent for a blue-glove date for a HD pat-down. Length of use: 2 months (almost) Pros = True blue/jewel tone blue; it fit machine and looked pretty (for a little while). Cons = Top shell: arrived warped/could not get left rear latch to ever "grab on"/seat fully; 2 months top shell major traveling spiderweb crack from back 2.5 inches long & growing legs Bottom Shell: 1.25" straight crack out from heaphone jack port on L side; L rear corner cracked off; R rear footpad fell out repeatedly (superglued it back in to get it to finally stay) Times are hard. So much hard work goes into every dollar. I don't usually write reviews but am doing so to assist others from donating money to a wealthy corporation for producing and marketing a defective product. Am a VERY unhappy customer and inaddition will be spreading the word to the other geeks in the Silicon Valley that Speck is no longer producing a reputable product. After 10 years I am no longer a customer of Speck.

This case fits and looks great. It's easy to apply, matched the color in the photos exactly, and doesn't block any inputs on the MBP. The area below the touchpad is especially well designed. The case follows the contours of the computer making that portion look especially nice. There is also a lip above the screen that make opening a snap. The apple logo looks especially rad when lit up through the case as well. The only downside to this is that it can be a little difficult to remove. However, you can remedy this by using a credit card to pry it (gently) off. Overall, this is a great case that will keep your macbook safe and you happy.

Lots of other plastic cases claim to do the same thing, but just can’t hold up to the busy life of a college student such as myself. Also, not only are they great for computers, they also offer Speck cases for iPhones and Droids as well. From a computer bouncing in your backpack during the whole day, to a cell phone placed in a purse or even daily motions, rest assured, your technology is protected from the outside elements. Practicality: While practicality is the last component of this review, it is the most important part to me. There are many cases out there for laptops, such as designer name brands as well as cloth ones. As a broke college student, not only can I not afford paying $90 plus for a designer case, they don’t hold up as well. Another great practical feature of the Speck cases is the fact they come in all sorts of colors and finishes in order for you to show off your true personality at a low cost. There are also little rubber feet on the bottom half of the case to keep the laptop from sliding off inverted locations. I’d recommend this case to anyone looking to protect and increase the longevity of their technology. A Speck case is a great investment that provides durable and long lasting protection. You won’t regret your purchase!

First time I bought this case for my macbook, it fit like a glove and lasted 3 years without a problem. This one doesn't fit properly (yes, I checked that it was the correct model before purchasing) and has subsequently cracked and broken in just about every weak spot. The corner tabs that go around the base of the macbook have broken off and never clicked into place properly, 3 corners of the screen cover cracked after clicking in and out constantly and the last one is barely hanging on. I bought this after the last one was so good and trouble free, but I am massively disappointed that my reasonable expectations for another quality case from Speck were not met. What a waste of money, I won't be buying speck again.

I've had this case on my computer for about a year now and it's held up great! I carry my computer back and forth to school and study sessions and it barely has any visible wear! I do carry this in a soft shelled protective case when in my backpack or purse. Easy on and off although I have no reason to remove it. Love the bright yellow color. I've had a purple Speck case for my 15" rMPB for a couple of years and found that it provides good protection without adding a lot of bulk. It does scratch if you're constantly moving your laptop about but they aren't very noticeable and preferable to scratching the MB. I've previously tried a knock off brand that looked the same, but quickly cracked and fell apart and the slightest bump. Will never go without one of these.

**Update** So, I have had my case for about 7 months now, which is good, but it has started to get a little wonky. The bottom clips that keep the bottom half connected are starting to break and that piece seems to be falling off all the time. I know I got a good 7 months out of it, but for $50 I had hoped for better. Looks like I am out to find another. I must say, Speck has probably saved me thousands of dollars over the past several years. Their cases took a beating while on my phones, they might not have always walked away looking pretty, but they did their job. This is why I decided to go with Speck when I got my new 13' MacBook Pro with Retina display. It arrived quickly and for the most part was in good shape. There is one spot that has a little cluster of scratches, but I can't even tell where it is when I put it on my MacBook. I know a lot of people have noted that it is really hard to get on and off, which I haven't found to be true. It fits very well, and when I had to take it off to get a speck of dust under the case it wasn't too bad. I spent weeks searching for the best case and was surprised that not very many cases had protection on the back corners, which this one does. My only concerns is that it will overheat, though, I know that none of the vents are covered up. I just wish they would have put a few vents on the bottom. If I had to change one thing it would be the glossy finish. It is fine and I am sure others like it, I just wished they had the satin finish in clear also. I will update in a bit if anything changes. All in all, a good product.
