Kotaro Pro Bamboo Kendama Toy with Extra String

For the price, this kendama toy is extremely well made and great! I have had other kendama toys in the past and this was the first one that I got that was mainly bamboo. The other kendama toys had paint that would chip off after repeated use, but this one is smooth and looks is as good as new even after a couple of months of use, which is a definitive positive. It's a pretty typical kendama toy, but it's very durable and can do a wide variety of tricks, making it a perfect gift for beginners. The only problems would be that the bamboo is rough at some points, especially in the interior of the cups, and the string isn't necessarily the best quality, but for the price, it's well worth it. Using it is challenging, but the tricks are completely do-able after some practice. It's a fun way to spend some time, particularly for kids, and a toy that I recommend for anyone who is interested.

Like some others, I became curious when I saw a kendama in a TV show. At the time this one was selling for $10, which seemed (just) worth trying. I’m glad I did. There are a lot of much more complicated (and expensive) kendamas out there, but for a casual user like me, who just wants to improve their hand eye coordination, this small, unpainted kendama is perfect. Out of curiosity, I actually bought a Kendama USA piece, with much larger cups, a longer string, and special paint, but I prefer this one. If you want to perform the many impressive advanced tricks, you’ll probably want a fancy kendama. But I’m happy tossing the tama between cups, spiking, and the occasional “airplane.”

For the price, the quality is disappointing. The kendama arrived with a visible crack, clearly a manufacturing defect. It appears to be made from multiple glued layers of wood.

This is very well made and solid. This 'toy' is incredibly fun! Both my 11 year old son and I enjoy it. It is very challenging and rewarding as you get better with time and practice. You know it's fun when the boy puts his phone down to play with this (and won't give it up easily). I'll have to buy a second one for him. The extra string is nice. Both adults and kids can grip this well. YouTube has some good videos for beginners. I don't think I would recommend for little tikes. It is a ball on a string and would hurt if a small kids whacks himself with one.
