can you use a snes or nes controller for the GB/GBA games?

Yep! Any supported controller will work with any supported game. So you can use NES for Genesis games, SNES for GBA games, whatever you like.

Why did the price jump from 99 dollars to 250?

It's fluctuating. My first one (returned) was $149. I gave it another chance and it was $129 and now it's $133. Also, look at the seller. Different sellers offer different prices at different times.

besides what aditional games it plays is there a diffrence between the retron 3 and the retron 5?

I have both and the differences are extreme. The Retron 3 emulates the systems in their native resolutions which means if you look at it on an HD TV they don't look very good at all. Retron 5 upscales and the difference is pretty amazing. It also saves your game progress, allows you to use cheats, improves the sound, uses HDMI (Retron 3 can't). Honestly, the differences are huge. It might be best to go to the official Retron 5 site and see what it does.
