It does work inside. It would work perfectly on the floor. It would also work on a bed although there is the risk that you might move a lot in the night and consequently fall off...The Lifesystems ArcNet Self Supporting single and double net are better for this purpose.

How high-spec is the waterproofing on the groundsheet?

I have never tested this directly on the ground but I would think it would be pretty waterproof...it is thick and pretty tough
