Is the final product heat proof

The final product is not heat-proof. Hot pots need to be placed on hot pads or trivets and not directly on the counter.

Would this go on lacquer counter top?

The directions tell you to sand the surface to dull finish. We did that and not having any problems. However, our top was not lacquered.

Can I add an additional coat of the top coat at a later time? It didn't come out quite as even as I'd like. :(

Since the top coat (or final finish) is an epoxy-type solution that was supplied with your kit, it probably won't hold up long enough with the proper consistency to be applied at some later time. Check with Rust-Oleum though; but my feeling is that you'll probably need to purchase more of the compound to get the finish that you want.
