Reliable and precise saw
Excellent saw, especially for thee cost compared to other more recognized brands. Still calibrated and precise cuts after over a year of heavy use.

LOVE IT and It Came With a Metabo Carbide Blade too
Being an old guy that wants to keep busy (a career master machinist) I did not need it to last forever but I needed PRECISION. I read the reviews of this machine and was taken back by stories of innacuracy, like the guy who said the angle adjustment was all off, and the Laser was off. I can tell you this- in my opinion it was the operator who was off and blamed the tool. Here's what I found during a complete and thorough check of the accuracy: This baby is SPOT ON in terms of its angular settings and the accuracy of the laser! I checked the angle using a precision ground sine-bar and a dial indicator. My cut across a 2X6 at 45 degree angle was off by .002"!! That's 2 thousandths of an inch... in wood??? you could not tell if it were ZERO, it was for all intents PERFCECT. And for the Laser: once again I used a 2x6 test piece. I made a tiny knife cut to mark the wood at exactly 12 inches as measured by my Starret Precision machinist scale. A knife cut mark is way more accurate than a pencil. I lined it up using the laser which is also an extremely thin line. I took a shallow cut across the board, let the blade stop an saw that the laser line was exactly in the center of the blade cut which is only 1/16" kerf (width). Then I measured the board after cutting it through, using my Starrett $1600.00 vernier caliper. It measured 11.970" or .030" shorter than my mark which is exactly half the blade thickness!!! Show me the setup that cuts a piece of wood to closer SPEC and it will cost you at least 5 times the Metabo. OH and the reason you want to have the laser in the middle is because you can cut boards on either side of the blade and allow for the same kerf width on each side. This saw is a KEEPER and a great price performer! Also; the reason I gave the safety features only 4 stars is because of the tiny button you have to push in before you trigger the start. It's ill placed for big ole hands. I put a tiny screw in it holding it down to keep from messing with it.

Overall good saw
My first miter saw. Pluses: * Front placement of the sliding arm design is good for storing without wasting space. * Handle design makes it easy for left or right handed person. * Dust collector bag does good job of collecting about 60% of dust. With shop vac (additional suction) I would see most dust captured. Haven't tested personally with attached vaccume yet. * Powerful motor for cutting any material. * No assembly required. Ready to use out of the box. * 5yr warranty. Although not used it yet. I have owned other Hitachi tools for over 10 yrs, just never had need to utilize it yet. Negative: * Like many other mentioned blade isn't perfect squared out of the box. You may have to tinker with it. Once I figured out what to adjust it was in the acceptable range. Keep in mind it's my first saw and not a professional carpenter. * Even after squaring blade when you slide to further pont for cut it's still little off by about less than 1/16". I think that due to sliding arm not 100% straight. Not sure if that normal for sliding miter saw or not. * Laser isn't perfect aligned with blade, especially when you slide blade all the way out. I didn't tinker with it too much. Other thoughts: * Never used the blade it came with. I ended up replacing blade with DeWalt 80T which works great for moldings. I'm sure if I had gone with 100T it would be even cleaner cuts but 80T did the job. I recommend going with 80T or higher instead of stock 60T blade.

Quality Built in Question!
Quality Built is one thing, however shipping mistakes were made, apon opening the box I noticed that the saw blade assembly arm was loose and the saw blade guild, small gray plastic piece that first must be cut before using the saw was broken into pieces, the factory didn't tighten the bevel adjustment handle, what a shame, I called Metabo, they said return it, the broken gray plastic piece was the only issue, I decided to keep the Saw, it cuts fine.

Fantastic Saw - Buy it
I don't typically leave a 5 star review, but this saw is great. Slides on forward facing fixed rails, exactly what I needed (and what all sliding miter saws should have). 13" wide cuts at 90 degrees, Excellent Accuracy, decent blade braking feature. Smoothly slides on rails with minimal effort. Laser is dead on (can be adjusted left or right to fit your needs). Small footprint for a 12" sliding miter saw (forward fixed rails). Square out of the box but if you need to square it up, the fence is easy to adjust. Only thing relatively average or "negative" would be the dust collection, which is to say, it is a miter saw, none of them are great at dust collection. My setup is pretty good at it but I have a shop vac hooked up to the dust port AND a small dust collector (both are dedicated to the saw) with a 4" hose split to two 2 1/2" ports to a box that is the size of its fence running to either side of the saw to collect ambient sawdust, but most people won't go to that extreme. Even if this saw were priced the same as other more expensive ones (which it is in some places), it would still be worth the cost. You cant go wrong with this saw.

Impressions right out of the box and first cut... 1. It is a sturdy piece of equipment 2. It cut accurately on the first cut 3. The sliding mechanism was relatively smooth 4. The laser guide was off a fraction 5. The angle adjustment was easy and smooth 6. The bevel adjustment was a bit cumbersome 7. Dust collection is average Impressions after about 1 year of use... 1. It's still a sturdy piece of equipment 2. I adjusted the cut ever so slightly (I'm a perfectionist) 3. I adjusted the laser - it was off and needed it 4. I some Johnson's wax on the sliding mechanism and it slides very smooth 5. I really like the slide bars being in front to save room behind the saw 6. Many wood workers will tell you that you don't need a miter saw but I use mine all the time In the end my suggestion would be...click the buy button! It's a great saw and you'll like the power, cut size and accuracy. However, don't expect to move this thing from job site to job site unless you're ready for some muscle building!

Received with Slider Out of Alignment
This is an acronym for "they don't make them like they used to" I bought this saw 2 years ago on a friend's recommendation. He loves his saw and it has worked trouble free for years. Until recently, I hadn't used the slider function, but struggled to get accurate 45 degree cuts. Then recently, I discovered that the slider is out of alignment, not centered in the kerf. How could this be? I checked the manual, but could not find information on how to adjust it. I then reached out to Hitachi Power Tools, but never got a response. Their site indicates that to get warranty service, I have to ship the saw to Georgia, which is both expensive and time consuming. I am hoping by posting this review HPG will contact me to resolve the issue. If they do, I will be happy to update my review. The saw is essentially unusable for precision work. The moral of this story is if you buy this saw, check it thoroughly upon receipt! I should have done this then and immediately returned it. I hope this helps.

Great saw.
This has been a great saw for what I use it for which is craft work. I makes fine cutting and angles easy. Easy to use and understand works great all around for framing work also.

Vale la pena comprarlo.
No me gusto tanto el laser porque desaparece cuando comienzas a bajar la sierra.

Great Price but Okay Saw
The saw was a great price and works okay. It is considerably less powerful than my old fifteen year old Mikita mitre saw. I don’t know if this is normal for a 12” saw as the Mikita Mitre saw was a 10” saw.
