Basswood Carving Blocks

CAUTION IF YOUR A NEW CARVER THIS IS NOT THE WOOD FOR YOU IF YOUR LUCKY YOU MIGHT GET SOFT WOOD! This stuff is harder then concrete I wasted money buying 3 boxes of the 2x2x6 it is all hard I pushed as hard as I could on the corner and it only went in 1/8 of and inch I would send it back but I tried pieces from each box Ill use it if I need blocks to hold up a truck or something as I'm sure it would hold it just fine terrible stuff if you have to push this hard it's not if you cut yourself it you will cut yourself. Will never buy again.

I have worked with basswood before. It is soft and easy to dent with your fingernail. I don't think this was basswood. Sawing it into smaller blocks took forever using my hand miter box which should have been quick work. The blocks of light colored wood that was very hard and dense. Perhaps Maple?

I am an experienced wood carver and I had a real hard time carving from this wood. The wood must be heart wood which makes it almost impossible to carve. I am trying to carve hands on dolls and it is impossible to cut. I would not buy this product again. Too much pressure needed to cut this wood.

Unless you have superhuman hand strength don't order. The basswood looks beautiful but too hard to carve unless you're into power-carving.

Very hard wood..will not purchase again..

The wood was dry and brittle and not suitable for carving.

The product is exactly as advertised, was easy to order, and was delivered very quickly. I would like to suggest another product modification: same bundle with each stick cut at 45 degree angle length-wise. This would increase product demand from carvers practicing face and spirit images, as well as ornament carvers.

Not impressed with carving ability and grains. Gotten better products and prices from ma and pop suppliers.
