A powerful look at an unforgettable era in history โIf we take these children, we can never betray them, no matter what the Nazis do.โ During the German occupation of France, twenty French children were brought to a refuge in the mountains. One day a young man came to their school with a request: Could they take in, and hide, ten Jewish refugee children? Sister Gabriel spoke up. โThe Nazis are looking for those children. If we take them we must never let on they are here. Do you understand?โ Of course the children understoodโbut how would they hide them if the Nazis came? Review: Happy to find this! - I've been wanting to read this book since childhood, but never could find it. I was so happy to see it here. Books like this are so important for children to encourage them to learn about and ask questions about history, even the not so nice parts of it. I wish I would've had this when my son was little, but I will be saving it in case I have grandchildren. Review: Wondeful story of Nazi ocupied France from a childs perspective. - This story of children during the world war two era really brings home the dangers and struggles of "normal" people in the Nazi Era. The children in the story range in age from 6-11 so the reader can understand their feelings and decisions. A very short read the story moves quick and there is plenty of action with only implied violence. Originally made for a class to read through in a week there is five med to long chapters with a good breaking point for parent/teacher conversation after each one. There are many Catholic/Christian references in the childrens games which is not surprising considering the era and that they are cared for by a Nun. References easily understood if you know/lookup basic bible stories. Less than 100 pages. Perfect for 7-11 year olds.

Great intro to WWII.
What a great book! As a teacher I am always on the lookout for books that are challenging but not overwhelming to the reader. This book is set during WWII , at a school in the country in France. Students had been sent there to live as a place safer than the cities. One day They are asked to keep Jewish children there to. This book does a wonderful job of showing aspects of the war children may not have thought of- food shortage, children hiding from Nazis, separation from parents. The book itself is not very lengthy, and easily adaptable for small groups or classrooms.

Amazing story of courage of children
This book is amazing. The children were so brave. They were terrified of the Nazi soldiers, but they protected the Jewish children. Children sacrificed their food ration and took risks to ensure that the Jewish children will have food and water. The author made some great analogy of the Jewish being hunted just as King Herod hunted Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

I like this book because it leaves you hanging on whether ...
Twenty and Ten is a book during the war with the Nazis and the Jewish. It starts when 10 Jewish children are secretly brought to a boarding school. One day, two Nazi soldiers come looking for the Jewish children that escaped. It's up to the older children to hide the Jewish children, to save the childrens lives, and theirs. I like this book because it leaves you hanging on whether or not the soldiers will find the children. I think it's a good book for children eight yrs. and older.

I like it five stars
I like it five stars, but it is not an action packed, multi-plot novel classic. However, it is a fast moving, sometimes funny, but tension building fictional rewrite of an actual happening from the view point of a now thirteen year old remembering the incident when she ten. I have used it as my introductory book for grades 4, 5, and 6 if there is no background for the WW2 and the Nazis treatment of the Jews and other groups Hitler intended to annihilate.
