With colorful stickers, a fold-out poster, award certificate, and Brain Quest Mini Decks in the back Review: So fun! - Brain Quest never misses! This workbook is fun, bright, and packed with skills practice that doesn’t feel boring. Great for keeping kids sharp during breaks or reinforcing what they’re learning in school. A must-have for 3rd grade families! Review: They are great. They are colorful - Thrilled to have tried this series; wish I'd found it sooner! My son and daughter started with these at the 2nd and 4th grade level. Now he's in the 3rd grade book and she's in the 5th grade book. Wish we'd started at the Pre-K level though! They are great. They are colorful, instructions are clear and the pages aren't overloaded with boring repetition. As a homeschooling mom in a state with very loose regulation, I feel good having my kids go through these books as a supplement and record of some of what we do. We do a TON of life-learning and hands-on activities, tons of art/music/theater and many field trips. I don't keep detailed records of our hands-on and life-learning because I'm not required to, and I don't feel like it'd be a good use of time. But I still like seeing these books completed as we finish them and I'm saving them to show the kids what they've accomplished. And as a reminder that we've got the basics covered well. We use Real Science 4 Kids and Trail Guide to Learning for science and social studies (covers some Language Arts and Science also) and we take a unit approach to those two, which means we don't work in them every single day. We use Teaching Textbooks Math daily, in addition to the math in these worktexts. I like being able to have the kids do Brain Quest in addition to our other activities and they typically enjoy BQ and find it fun. I do wish BQ would beef up the social studies and science sections of the books. They are the most fun and also the shortest. Then the kids run out of science and social studies and are left with tons of math, reading, spelling, etc. and it feels a little unbalanced. Other than that, these are perfect and I'll keep buying them. Currently hoping BQ might publish some beyond 6th grade. I'd buy them!!

Fun way to keep up & prepare for year ahead
This book is so well designed! We have planned to complete about 5 pages a day in order to complete the book by the end of the summer. My son loves math, so I'm not too surprised that he is devouring the Fractions section, a new subject for him. He struggles with writing, so we hang out in the hammock while he works on Spelling & Vocabulary pages, Reading pages (which require writing to respond to), Writing pages, and Literary Arts pages. This is so much better than just sitting in front of screens trying to accomplish schoolwork online. He's enjoying it! And we can snuggle together while he works on it. I am impressed with how well the pages are thought through. For instance, after a Spelling page (where he circles the correct spelling of a word in a sentence), at the bottom are boxes for different "short a sounds" and "short o sounds", etc, with corresponding lines for how many vocabulary words have those sounds in them. At the bottom of the boxes it show the various spellings that can create those sounds ("a" "ea"). This was designed so well, I have no issue pointing out the parts to him and pushing him to do a little extra work to complete the page. Usually, when I try to explain "well usually we pronounce it this way, this time we pronounce it this other way..." and I just end up saying "English is confusing." This book is great. I highly recommend.

Fun, colorful, Reinforcements
Very colorful inside, with color-coded sections. Although it does have a table of contents, the sections are not broken down any further. I had to take out a notebook to write everything down so that we can refer back to these pages later, as we study each skill in our lessons. Spelling and Vocabulary section has words sorted by usage such as plurals, prefixes, homophones, etc. It also reviews a few commonly misspelled words, using context clues to determine word meaning, and putting words in alphabetical order. It then goes over the basics of how to use a dictionary, and ends with having the student look up words in a dictionary and copying the word's definition. The Language Arts section is pretty impressive. It has at least a bit of everything. It even touches cursive writing via reading cursive. It doesn't go in depth, but it's a good review. The Reading section is fairly basic as well, but again includes a bit of everything. The writing section I appreciate more because it introduces where to start in writing, such as defining what it should be about, and how to expand upon that. It reviews English concepts and how they are used to improve writing, like using descritive words and writing a topic sentence. Then it goes over outlines via reviewing paragraph structure and sentence order. I appreciate the proofreading chart of marks used, and the writing checklist. Despite how much there is, it is still only reinforcing material. Similar content is found among the rest of the subject areas, meaning they each contain at least a bit of everything, except social studies and science, which is very minitial. I love how it separates each type of math onto separate pages; it makes it easier to jump to where reinforcement is needed most, but I wouldn't rely solely on this book for trouble areas. It's simply not enough. But it is good review as you go. I love how it introduces fractions and transitions from fractions to decimals. It then uses decimals to help solve money problems. Measurement units are also introduced. The bonus multiplication chart at the end is great! It barely goes over social studies as an after thought. Science at least has a page to a few different animal types and ideas. But these two subjects are not very comprehensive, probably because every school is different on what exactly they go over. In conclusion, I love this book as a review / reinforcement activity book. I plan on issuing pages of it as homework in my homeschooling plan. My child is excited to start it just by how it looks. That is encouraging. Glad I purchased this item.

Engaging summer workbook that keeps skills sharp without feeling like schoolwork
The Brain Quest workbooks are generally well liked for making grade level review feel more interactive and less repetitive. This 3rd grade version covers a good range of core subjects like math, reading, writing, and basic problem solving, with short activities that help kids stay engaged without getting overwhelmed. The format tends to mix traditional practice with puzzles and quick challenges, which helps keep attention better than standard worksheets. In real use, it works especially well as a summer workbook because it’s structured but still approachable, so kids can do a little at a time without losing interest. Many parents like to use the next grade up as a way to gently prepare for the upcoming school year, and this series fits that purpose well. Overall, it is a practical, kid friendly way to keep learning consistent during breaks while still feeling light and manageable.

Use for homeschool HIGHLY recommend
Love these books! I started using a different all in one curriculum and switched to this. These are great! I use for 3rd and 5th grades. They do need some supplementation so we do other assignments in combination with this. But these are our main source of schoolwork. Each lesson builds so you can go in order through each subject, and it covers a variety of material so it's sufficient. The book is rather thin so we do one page from each subject and I try to correlate relative assignments or discussion with some of them. Each has a "brain box" which is VERY useful! This is like the teacher instruction. It gives a great explanation of how to do the work and then gives an example including a breakdown of the example given. These are incredibly helpful for ME because I often need a review and this gives me everything I need to teach the lesson to my kids. Sometimes they don't understand the brain box and require me to paraphrase in a way they need. I LOVE the brain boxes. I'm so glad we got these books, were having a great year and a great time with these, and most importantly I know educationally my children are right where they need to be, and are caught up from a lack of education during our previous "virtual" school through the district. They are learning more this way in a shorter time. I was nervous to homeschool, afraid they wouldn't get the education they need, but we are all doing well and enjoying our time together in the process. It's a win win.

Incredible workbook to get the mind stimulated
We purchased this last year and it wasn't touched due to all the camps my son was enrolled in. This year, life is different. I am doing my best to keep my son entertained and switching up activities. This book offers so much. I make it a point to always choose 3 - 4 different sections to keep him motivated. Nothing has impressed me more than his willingness to pick up this book and say, "okay mom, what's next?" He's 8+, active, loves legos and could have his nose in an ipad and or XBOX if I allowed it. Brain Quest is a fantastic book with so many options. If he's feeling a little lazy instead of me fighting with him I change it up and say, "what looks interesting to you?" It works wonders when he's able to pick out his assignments. We also just received the Brain Quest 1,000 Questions and Answers set. He is so into these cards I am so happy I purchased these as a complimentary educational set. Best of luck to all parents finding ways to make the most of 2020's "summer" and keeping our children as challenged and motivated as possible. I feel you will enjoy this as well.
