Wilton Edible Gel Food Coloring Set - For Baking & Decorating - Mixable Color Shades - Concentrated Formula for Vibrant Colors - 0.5 Ounces Each (12-Piece Set)

I use these for coloring my macarons, buttercream, and icing for sugar cookies. I like the colors! Pros: - concentrated - doesn't dilute batter or icing (works for egg whites! = you can color macarons) - usually taste-free Cons: - not easy to open (individual containers) - if using a fair amount to get a deeper color, you might taste it a little For my needs, a little goes a long way! I have found the colors to be saturated and easy to mix to get the shades I want. When I use more to get a darker color, I sometimes notice a bit of a taste. Opening the individual tubs of color can be tricky - the foil seal doesn't have a tab so you have to cut it open and pry the foil off the tub which can get quite(!) messy. I'm including photos of what I've made so you can see how I've been using these. For these scenarios, there's more than enough color. I hope this review is helpful to you.

I've taken to making cupcakes and cookies and making icing letters on them... you know, an "H" on one cookie, "A" on another, and so forth, and arrange the cookies or cupcakes to spell out HAPPY BIRTHDAY or whatever the occasion might be. I prefer bold, rich colors, like jewel tone colors, so these gel colors fit the bill to get the bold color without watering down my icing. Only takes a few toothpicks of color to get what I'm looking for, so each 1/2 ounce color is going to go a long way. A good buy, all around. I will never go back to regular liquid food coloring! Also, I know others have stated this but I'll say it again, the black color is good but you have to start with a chocolate icing, not a white icing. **Update** I found another use for these Wilton colors by making colored sugar. I've used it with granulated sugar and with sparkling sugar (bigger crystals) and it works great either way, but the sparkling sugar is more, well, "sparkly" which I like since I use the colored sugar to decorate cakes and cookies with. Put the sugar into a Ziploc bag, take the tip of a butter knife to get some color on it, then wipe the color off the knife on the inside of the bag. (Does that make sense?) Zip up the bag, then mash the sugar around with the color until evenly distributed. The color will come off the side of the plastic bag just fine and blend in with the sugar. Then spread the sugar out on a plate or a sheet of foil to dry for a few hours. Voila!

Pros: -vibrant color -good dispersal -no weird taste Cons: -messy to open -not the easiest to dose out -lids can stick a bit Overall: Definitely the quality I'd expect from Wilton! Color is great and disperses well, very vibrant. The only one that's difficult to make deep is black but that's normal for any food dye so it's still proper quality. I've had success in frosting, royal icing, and soft sugar cookies.

I've used a few gel food coloring and cannot get the color I want, even with using the whole product. This is perfect for the decorating that I like to do! I take a toothpick, slid it into the color than mix a bit with whatever I'm trying to color and the color is amazing! Very bold. It usually takes 2 toothpick slides to get the color I want but there's tons in the tub so I'm confident this will last a long time. I got the extended color version because I wanted to make pink and purple frosted cupcakes for some toddlers who love that color and also Baby Yoda decorated cookies. Worked like a charm! I also used the copper and lemon yellow for NYE cupcakes. Turned out GREAT! Highly recommend for the person who's looking for good solid colors while decorating.

These colors are very potent. My friend and I were decorating a cake for the first time. I wore gloves and she didn't. Her hands were tinted for a couple of days! She kept scrubbing for ages and it wouldn't budge. Be careful about that! As far as the colors go, it is great that there's a lot of colors to choose from.but this kit doesn't work well for those that need skin color. The cake we made was for a bachelorette party... I won't be able to post a full length shot but see the attached image (there's a full video and images of how I made it on YT). It was extremely hard for us to make the skin color. Unless youre an expert at mixing colors or an advanced artist, this kit really isn't the best way to go if you need skin color. We had to color correct several times and finally settled for the final color. It looks like sunburned skin but oh well! Although these colors didn't work out for making skin color, the color stayed the same tint hours after I decorated the cake. I eventually decorated a birthday cake blue a month later and the cake came out well. If you're using pure white fondant.icing, you'll need to add more than just a toothpick worth of color to help balance out the whiteness of icing. Each time I used these colors I had to add chunks of the icing (it's like a gel) into my fondant. Oh, and this icing color doesn't affect the taste of the cake/frosting for those inquiring.

I am happy with this set. I'm using it for something other than icing so if you're using it for icing, this review may not apply. I am using it to permanently dye yarn. So far, this has worked perfectly. Nice bold colors and I've only needed a teeny amount for each batch. I stuck a fork in the little tub and only used that little amount of what was stuck to the fork and it colored a decent amount of yarn. It won't work with synthetic yarns. Containers are sealed well, no leakage in package, I received a different set and several tubes leaked out into box. You can see the vibrant colors I obtained with a few of the dyes, I use this yarn for custom dolls that I make, so for all you yarnies out there like me, these gels work great for dyeing wool yarn lol!!!!

Ho sempre saputo che la wilton faceva prodotti ottimi ma non avevo ancora avuto il piacere di provarli ! Usato subito il giallo per vedere come usciva fuori nel l'impasto di una torta semplice , A DIR POCO UN BEL GIALLO ACCESSO 😃Ho messo addirittura due puntine di gel come prima volta ma per le prossime anche una sarà sufficiente , dopo la cottura era ancora più accesso come colore ! Pienamente soddisfatto ! Proprio quello che cercavo ! Spedizione precisa e pacchetto intatto ! LO STRA CONSIGLIO !! 😃😃

Very good quality gel colours for optimum results. Very little product required so it doesn't change the texture of the icing, batter, etc. Colours appear light when initially mixed with the icing, batter, etc but the final look consists of bright vivid colours and that's what makes this product absolutely amazing.
