Traders explores the intimate lives and loves, the mystique and machinations, of investment bankers whose high-stakes decisions and sizzling alliances can have substantial consequences. In a world where fortunes are made or lost in a heartbeat, you are in for a roller coaster ride of financial deal-making, economic intrigue and backroom showdowns. Review: To my knowledge the only drama series with a trading back drop that lasted more than 1-season! - Too bad only the 1st season (of the 5-year run) is commercially available. I was able to score seasons 2-5 from another source. There was an old cable channel called TRIO where I first caught a few episodes and got hooked. Character driven drama that follows the trials and tribulations of "smallish" investment/trading firm Gardner Ross. The firm is somewhat profitable, though to remain both relevant to their customers and avoid being taken over, they are in constant need of capital. When senior partner Cedric Ross is jailed, he convinces his daughter to leave academia to represent his position in keeping the firm intact and to stave off his partner Adam Cunningham, who for personal reasons supports a takeover. Jack Larkin is is an experienced trader plying his trade at the "rough and tumble" Vancouver Exchange, but has a desire to move into investment banking and work on "Bay Street" (AKA Canada's Wall Street). In order to essentially buy his way into Gardner Ross, Jack steals away an IPO from a rival by guaranteeing greater proceeds. Unfortunately, primarily due to forged alliances, the investment syndicate falls apart and Gardner Ross finds itself responsible for having to place almost the entire issue of the new stock. If they cannot place the stock in the open market, GR could lose all their capital to meet their commitment to client. Head trader Marty Stephens to the rescue. Marty turns lemons into lemonade, making a large profit for GR by playing spin doctor and generating demand for the new issue If you are not into to finance, the character drama will draw you and you will like the show. If you are marginally interested in finance, you will be drawn in by the character drama, find the realistic back drop interesting and will love the show! Finally, if you work in finance or in a related trade, you will be drawn in by the character drama, find the realistic back drop interesting, will greatly appreciate the fact that what you do has made it into some form of watchable media and will put this show at higher end of whatever ranking metric you use! Review: We Want More! - This series is absolutely amazing! The characters are well-thought and getting just...a...little more about them in each episode is like learning about all your relatives. They laugh & backstab & pull each other up when they fall. The intrigue that hovers in the background is only a little bit easier to handle when you know you don't have to wait a week to find out what happens next. BUT -- When are we going to get the rest of this series? From all accounts, no one even knows who owns the right to TRADERS anymore. So here's a shout to Canada in general: IT'LL SELL! GIVE IT UP! WE WANT MORE!!!

A pleasant surprise; nerdy entertainment
I am no TV fan. This little Canadian gem caught my eye, though, and as a fan of the financial drama type genre (and here I am thinking for example of the original "Wall Street," and to some extent "American Psycho," in its more tame moments), I gave it a whirl. Here we have a very wide range of personalities thrown into an investment bank/trading firm, shaken and stirred. There are nefarious schemers, a clown or two (the "derivatives genius" idiot savant is unbelievably silly), and a 1990s look (transitional from open call type era forward, with some archaic computers). Of course plenty of collision courses are set in motion. It's relaxing, and I'm sure the direct participants would find plenty of flaws and absurdities. But I will watch it through again.

Fantastic Show Can't Wait to See More
I recently watched the complete first season on DVD and am totally hooked! I sure hope they will release the other seasons. All of the actors do a great job of being very believable and create tension so thick you could cut it with a knife! You feel as if you are right there with them for the highs and lows. I bought this DVD mainly to see David Cubitt, but I am really impressed with the entire cast.

Too much shouting
First season was great, the first half of the second season was good. But then it devolved into people shouting at each other in every episode.

Season 1 was truly excellent. I want to see what happens next
Where to get additional seasons, seriously. Would pay about $100 for seasons 2-5. I can't even find a copy online... Season 1 was truly excellent. I want to see what happens next.

Exciting - surprising - has depth
This is an EXCELLENT series. Most, if not all of the characters have flaws which affect how they interact with each other and how they conduct business. If you ever wondered what a school of sharks in business suits would look like, this is it. You'll find yourself loving and hating them at the same time. The story line assumes the viewer has some intelligence. The fast pace keeps you on the edge of your seat. Make a few sandwhiches and a thermos of coffee before you watch the first show cause you'll have a hard time getting away from the TV after that! I've already seen all the episodes on TV a couple of times each, but still wanted to own this series on DVD. I sure hope they get around to releasing the remaining 4 seasons on DVD. I want them all!

Great Series Good DVDs.
They should release the other seasons. Well written and acted. This is a bit blurry at times but that was the way it was back in the 90s and now everyone has hi def TV's. I wonder why this cannot be streamed in Canada.

The Best TV Drama
I first remembered the hype for the pilot of this show. I didn't bother to give it a look, but years later I remember watching an episode because CTV was showing a figure skating competition instead of ER. I was hooked instantly! This has to be the best show EVER on TV and I'm so proud it's Canadian. I was hooked religously from the 3rd season onwards. I'm so glad this first season DVD came out, but I'm praying... no I'm BEGGING they release the other seasons, no matter the cost!

Release all seasons on DVD
Really good TV drama. Why are there not more seasons on DVD? Characters were complex. Acting was superb. So much grittier than later Canadian TV.
