Am I able to retrace my steps so that I can easily find my car after hiking?

Yes, to retracing your steps or "Track". One of the features of the eTrex20 is "Tracks". It always plots your current track (like dropping bread crumbs). You can go to "Where To?" and select "Tracks" then select "Current Track" then push Menu button and select "Reverse Track". It will guide you back along the route you just took. Another key feature is being able to set Waypoints (and being able to give each a name other than the default non-descriptive number like 001). I suggest you set a Waypoint where your car is, name it "car". The eTrex20 then allows you to use "Where To?" option to route you to the "car" waypoint you set. The unit can be as accurate as within 9 feet depending on the number of satellites it can see. Even inside my house the accuracy is at 25 feet. So without retracing your steps, it will point you to your car. It has a compass that will point you to your car when you are navigating to a waypoint. Much to experiment with. Try these features in a known area first until you feel comfortable with it. Oh yeah, make sure you go to "Setup" then "Routing" then select the "Guidance Method" to be "Off Road" and "Calculate Route for "Pedestrian" and "Lock On Road" to be "No".

Can I use this GPS on hiking trails in the US right out of the box?

No!The map it comes with is utterly useless for hiking. Plan on ponying up at least $50 at the Garmin store to buy something usable, or $100 for something really useful.Buyer beware - the pretty color maps that appear in the pictures of the device are either (1) the useless map that comes with the unit or (2) something that was purchased separately.This is a great unit, but unfortunately I found out the hard way about its map deficiencies.In fairness to Garmin, when I registered the unit, they were nice enough to send me a 10% off coupon that I subsequently used to buy the New England map.

like an old Eagle Expedition, can I pick any waypoint from my list and go to it? Also, can I delete all stored waypoints at one time? I appreciatd any

although i'm still acquainting myself with my etrex 10 and the manual is somewhat lacking, i'm pretty sure you can pick your waypointw and also delete all stored waypoints at one time. you might want to contact garmin customer service about these questions. i've done that a few times and the representatives have been quite helpful.

Question 4

Is this meant for walking trails and stuff, or is it mainly for car usage? I don't want it to lead me into a highway or something. I am also not sure whether it will specific streets and stuff clearly, or only a world map like in the picture.

This is a trail GPS, not an automotive one. Look at the Nuvi series of Garmin GPS's if you want an automotive unit.
