Worth it
I have a large outside container garden that gets weeds from the lawn mower blowing seeds and such into the pots. I needed something to help me weed those pots and I found this set. It is quite nice. The small, metal rake is exactly what I wanted. The tines are sharp enough, and the handle is the right size and easy to grasp. I even turn the tool upside down and use the handle to dig/pry little roots up sometimes. It fits handily in my pots and in my hand. The other tool would be good if I were still doing bonsai, but I haven't used it yet. The handle is sturdy. The little bamboo rake is smile-producing and I'm thinking of gluing a pinback to it and using it as jewelry. It is ornamental and cute only - not functional. The metal tools appear to be carbon steel and so therefore need to be cleaned off after use and would benefit from being lightly wiped down with an oily rag too.Carbon steel rusts like mad; there are NOT stainless steel. The design makes them easy to clean. No big deal. I like quality tools and these count as quality tools.I think the quality is just fine and have no problem recommending them.

Great for all bonsai levels
Very useful tool, at least as good as other similar sets that are much more expensive. Great for the beginner or expert.

The root rake and root pick is worth the price
The product is what it is, a great starting point for beginners. I am starting my bonsai hobby now (Jan 2017), so paying a couple of hundreds of dollars on a set of tools seems stupid. Maybe in a few years time when I am better at this. The scissor is a bit stiff, I haven't oiled or used it yet though. The wood rake is nice but it will surely break. (Maybe a stiff paint brush/small broom from a home improvement store will work)The straw broom is nice but a big paint brush will work as well. The two items that is essential in Bonsai are the root rake and root pick. Haven't used it yet but they looked pretty sturdy. In the future, I will probably buy a big paint brush buy a couple cheap small scissors.

Unlike most gardening tools, the only thing that makes root rakes and root hooks better or worse is sturdiness, roughness, and ergonomics. Other factors like length and the exact form of the tool head are situational. These don't have the best ergonomics, but they're sturdy and the ergonomics aren't terrible. The points aren't sharp and there are no burrs on the relevant parts of the tools.Unless you have arthritis, intend to use these a ton, or need a different size, I wouldn't recommend spending more than this.

Quality of Shears
The quality of the shears has much to be desired for. You get what you paid for: low price, low quality. The shears had some rust already. They were not easy to use because of rustiness. If you want replacement shears, do not buy this kit. Buy the shears individually, and look for Japanese quality. You will notice the quality right away.

Excellent
I purchased this as part of a birthday gift for my adult grandson. He loved it so I am happy. These tools are actually of a much higher quality than I had expected from some of the negative reviews. The scissors and the two other metal tools are of a substantial weight and feel good in the hand. They seem as if they would be comfortable to use. The other two tools are also nicely made. These were very reasonably priced and I would buy them again. Thinking of getting a set for myself. Definitely would recommend.

Excellent tools, somewhat delicate
Good tools to begin your bonsai journey, the rake seems to be delicate and easily broken but serves its purpose. The other tools are quite robust and will satisfy any beginners needs in my opinion.
