Papilon Concentrated Gel Food Color, Super Red, 30 g

I used this color to make Red Velvet cake. It is a gel based color. So you might face trouble to take the color out from its container eventually. A suggestion- Never try to take out the color out the whole of the nozzle. The nozzle may come out and color may spiller over your cake batter. Every time I think of making a red velvet cake, I always get stuck at the food colour. I never seemed to get a good quality food colour. This time I bought this - first time using a gel food colour, I was not sure how it would be - I didn’t want a pink or orange colour which is what I used to get with most liquid colours that said “red”. However, I thought of giving it a try after reading some positive reviews. The colour is really thick and bright red as you can see in the picture. It doesn’t not leave any weird taste in your cake which happens with some liquid colours. I made a two layered cake so I added quite a bit of the colour. But that doesn’t matter as long as the colour is perfect and leaves no odd taste. But be careful while adding the colour as it is gel and it is thick, you may want to press the bottle harder and in the process, the nozzle might just fall off and a lot of colour may fall into your bowl - which is what happened to me. But fortunately it was a gel colour and didn’t get mixed immediately. I quickly transferred the contents into another bowl and the colour was sitting at the bottom without being mixed and I used how much ever I needed. So always better to use a spoon or a small bowl to pour in the colour and then mix it with whatever you are adding the colour to, to avoid over spillage. I would definitely recommend this food colour and I’m happy I’ve found my perfect red colour for my red velvet cakes and may be will try other colours in the future for frosting. Also it’s affordable. Packaging was very neat too.

It is little bit pinkish colour

You have to use a little more product that expected despite it being gel based. Whipping the colour causes it to fade, which is why its better to use a spatula to mix it so that the color does overmix and fade. It leaves the color marks on your tongue, so its better to avoid using color as much as you can. But the color gives a strong beautiful shade which I hadn't expected it to be. Both the green and red color in the cake are of this company.

This is a very vibrant colour for red velvet. I am so happy that I got this colour. I used almost the whole bottle of gel colour. There is no aftertaste.

This is pathetic.. after so much efforts not even a single drop came out of bottle and then suddenly a dunlop came out.. the consistency is bery bas in comparison to other gel colors i hav been using.. my hands are red even after washing multiple times.. d color is not good for ur throat..

Even when tasted directly, it doesn't have a chemical aftertaste. Some colours will taste fine when raw but get a bad smell or taste after cooking. But this one stays tasteless and odourless. You can dump the whole bottle and you cannot detect a change in the taste of the product unless you have very very sensitive taste buds and are comparing before and after side by side. Even then it is barely detectable. It does require a lot to give the super red colour (half a bottle). That is way more than some other good gel brands that need only 2-3 drops. But, it gives the perfect colour when the required amount is added and doesn't change anything in the cake. The colour also doesn't fade away on adding baking soda or vinegar or cooking. It is expensive though. If no better option is available, I might buy it again.

The red colour in the sweets is what I used this product for. It very good
