There is a calibration procedure in the manual. It involves just holding down a button and putting it in buffer solutions. Very simple.

How well does this perform in soil testing?

I can tell you that the instrument is easy to use for testing the pH of a soil/water mixture. However, I cannot attest to its accuracy.

Is this recommended for soil testing for Professional Landscaping?

I don't think this is what you are looking for. The probe is very sensitive and fragile.
