Review: DK guides are the best travel guides, hands down - DK guides are the best travel guides. I've used others, but none are as easy to figure out, and as detailed. Good maps, lots of detail, great pictures, durable. I particularly like the detailed "neighborhood views" for areas with many attractions. DK typically updates their guides every 2-4 years making them pretty accurate Sometimes the restaurant suggestions are a little out-of-date, but that occurs with anything subject to printing lags. Review: Helped us have fun in Switzerland - Used this every day on our recent trip to "the old country." We tried several of the suggested restaurants (excellent) and got a "Rick Steves Discount" at one hotel. We enjoyed all the highest rated attractions he mentioned, and found his analysis to be quite good. But, be warned, Switzerland is REALLY an expensive country to visit. His estimate of $125 a day was high for us, as we got breakfast in our hotels (what a wonderful spread they put out!) and got our lunches from Coop, Migros, and Kiosk stores often in the train station. We had to hunt for dinners less than $20 per entree. Also, if you do get a burger, they charge extra for ketchup and relish.

Excellent info for walking tours
I love Eyewitness guides for solid, thorough information on what to see. Plenty of graphics--photos, drawings, and 3-D maps with walking tours--always help me plan my travel. I used the Switzerland guide to plan a short trip to Lucerne and Lausanne. It gave me excellent information to plan a walking tour of the historic districts of both cities. I never use Eyewitness guides as my sole source for planning a trip, but I couldn't plan a trip without them.

Beautiful photos and great information
Very helpful maps and guides (but I did find an error on one of the first pages where they labeled a photo as a field of edelweiss instead of narcissus) and I like how it is all laid out. A good size to keep in a travel bag as well!

Best travel books
I’ve bought DK Eyewitness travel books for a number of years for myself and as gifts. They have never disappointed! This one is great, too. Aside from comprehensive information, the full color illustrations are many and excellent. If you’re hesitant to buy here unseen, check them out at a bookstore and compare to others. I think you’ll agree this series is tops.

Good coverage of a lot of different areas
Good for an overview of a lot different areas. I did supplement this with Rick Steve's guide which I borrowed from the local library. I found the Rick Steve's guide has more detailed information, suggestions, and maps of the Berner Oberland area. But I also preferred the walking maps of the "old town" for the major cities in this book. I recommend this book if you don't know where to start.

I miss the personalized evaluations...
Very nice book, but none of the recommendations that Rick Steeves' books have. Beautiful pictures.

Huge disappointment!
I am very disappointed! The previous format DK travel books were informative, full of maps, additional infos, tips and tricks. I loved the little off-road routes. You will not find many of those in the new version. The new version books seem to have more page size photographs than text (e.g. Bodensee: 7 sentences, not even a photo) and many places are not even worth mentioning. In "Must see" section there is a page size picture of the attraction that a tourist is supposed to see so why bother? No "where to eat", "where to stay", "what to buy", "traditional dishes/food" sections. I think in a few years' time we will have a comic book version of the guide book that once used to be the best guide books of all.

Ótimo
Excelente. Conversei com um Suíço depois de ler e estava mais bem informado que ele sobre o país. Eu recomendo.

It's much more than clocks and chocolate!
Very useful book. As long as you know which region (in terms of language) you're in, you'll be okay.
