Good quality - long service but beware of pricing fluctuations and pay attention when installing.
Started using Watts filters around 2000, initially purchased through Home Depot. I install this on the water supply of an older Whirlpool side by side refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser. Believe these are the best outboard filters available and, depending upon usage, will last several years before replacement needed. One caution is be certain that you have installed correctly and that you have a leakproof seal. The instructions say to hand tighten and then use a wrench for a final half turn. That might work if you have a very strong grip but I found that I needed to crank it down around another 1 1/2 turn or so before it stopped leaking. Let me emphasize that you need to check for leaks and continue to carefully tighten until it is sealed properly. When I replaced a filter the first time, I belatedly discovered that it was still slightly leaking...too late and had water damage in an adjacent room (the water had seeped under the baseboard). Not sure what is going on with the pricing, perhaps just supply chain problems, but these were listed at over $100 this last time (early 2024) which is over 3X the amount I paid for the first one. Delayed until it came back down within reason. Current price seems to have stabilized around $40.

Who doesn't like a good bargain
Who doesn't like a good bargain? I do, you do, we all do so you should like this. This is my third Watts 5 year Filter. I went to Home Depot to buy my latest replacement and they did not carry it anymore. I feared it was not available anymore and was very pleased when I did find it on line and for the same price or close to what I paid three plus years ago. I prefer to replace the filter every three years or so. It does not get heavy usage in our house. It does make Glendale, Arizona water drinkable for me.I still like to chill the water for best flavor but I can drink it without chilling. I use it to make coffee and it is fine to my taste. It is not as good as a three stage reverse osmosis (RO) system but hey it is thirty bucks AND it does not waste water like an RO system and it lasts years. Assuming you already have the setup to use a filter, it is easy to install and all you need to provide are two wrenches or pliers. One warning: In my experience the brass hex nuts that fasten the tubing to the filter need to be tightened more than the instructions say. It says to hand tighten then turn a 1/4 turn with wrench. This is my third filter and it has always leaked at this point. I turn the nuts more until the leaking stops. As with any plumbing I do I watch for leaks for a day or so before feeling confident that all is stable and dry.

Watts Filter Works Well
This is my second filter. I am very pleased with the way it filters my water.

1/3 KDF and 2/3 GAC
Quality filter, but only about 1/4 to 1/3 is KDF media. The rest is granular activated carbon. Gallon rating is great (due to KDF), but only rated for 6 months (!?) Ran mine for about 2 years as a second stage, between a 1-Micron sediment, and a carbon block filter, but will probably cap it at 1 year this time. Had some questionable discoloration in the KDF media when cut open after so long.

Improves Water Taste
I just installed my second one of these filters. I put one in our previous house that was going great after 3 years when we moved, and I left the filter there. The water at our new house tasted heavily of Texas dirt (compliments of Lake Texoma), even after having been through the refrigerator's internal, new filter. So I bought another of these. The total install was about 30 minutes, which included cleaning behind the refrigerator! No leaks. Put the refrigerator back. Ran a couple of gallons through and gave it a taste test. EXCELLENT results! The improvement was exactly what we wanted. When I bought the previous filter in 2018, I remember that it was rated for 5 years. The new one says to replace after 6 months. 20,000 gallons in 6 months?? No way I'm using that much. I'll use this filter until the water starts tasting bad again, which I'm confident will be close to 6 years than 6 months.

Way better value for fridge water; harder to install for sink water
Because this unit is essentially packed with a bed of granulated activated carbon (i called the vendor who claims ~50% of the bed is the antimicrobial material), it goes WAY further than the refrigerator carbon block filters (these really should last 3-5 years at more than 10 gallons per day of use). We have periodic PFAS and other organic level issues in our municipal water supply, so installed one of these under the sink to handle BOTH sink cold drinking/cooking water as well as the refrigerator line, so I used a T adapter (~$6, typically used for dishwasher line installations) and a short auxiliary 1/4”x1/4” refrigerator line to the inlet of the filter. Then, off to the fridge, for which I will not be replacing the block filter for another 3-5 years. I needed to wrap the Teflon tape a bit heavily around the supplied threaded nipple to assure a snug leak-free connection. Everything has been holding fine for a few months, and the water tastes clean (no chlorine). Bought more to install in the bathrooms, where we grab drinking water at night!

Great water filter for KitchenAid freezer
Great in line water filter for my KitchenAid freezer. It's good for 20,000 gallons for 5 years even though it says replace yearly. I don't use a lot of ice cubes so I can go the 5 years. Amazon's the only one that carries this type of water filter.

Watts water filters.
Have used the Watts 20000 Gallon water filter on all my refrigerators we have and had in the past 30 years here in San Diego. The water quality in SD has a lot to be desired.

Great tasting water and ice through my fridge/freezer
Hooked this up to my side-by-side LG fridge/freezer, after about 5 litres of water it cleared up and I've got great tasting water and ice cubes. Does what it says. Filters water.

Exactly as required
I used this filter as the final “under counter” filter for the kitchen counter reverse osmosis drinking water system, as the RO unit itself is located in the basement requiring a long tubing run up to the kitchen. This “fix” was simple.

Extremely happy with this puchase!
I run a restaurant and I used these filters to replace the very expensive filters on our ice machine and coffee brewing machines. They were very simular to the OEM filters in size, fittings, and quality at a fraction of the price. OEM filters were costing us over $100 each and had to be replaced every six months. At $40 each for 5 years these filters are a great money saver. Even if we have to replace them once a year it's still a bargain. One note to mention, be sure to flush the new filter well, as outline in the installation instructions, as there is alot of what seams like charcoal residue that comes out at first.
