Review: Begin healing your life - I've been on a personal journey, trying to learn about myself and grow, in the last month. This book is helping me on my journey of self-discovery and self-love. I have a terrible time dating. I am 36 and I not only don't love myself, I hate myself! (But I'm working on it!) So when a good guy came into my life, I couldn't trust in the relationship because I didn't feel worthy of a good man. I chased him away because of fears I have. Fears that I am not worthy, that once he got to know the real me he wouldn't like what he saw. But deep down inside, because I hated myself, I couldn't trust that someone else could care about me. I turned to dating books. I re-read some books that I bought in the spring, thinking I could find the answers there. Well, yeah, I think if you have healthy self-esteem and a healthy belief system, those dating books may help. But then again, if you have healthy self-esteem, you probably don't need dating books (or this book), because if and when you truly love yourself, the right people will come into your life. Do yourself a favor and buy this book if you are struggling emotionally with anything. Louise's book contains so much helpful information in an easy to read format. She doesn't use big technical words that you cannot understand. At the end of the book, she tells you about her life journey, and she comes from a place of experience and understanding about the subject matter she writes about. Our life isn't about the past, and who has hurt us or wronged us. We must learn to forgive, or at least be willing to forgive. She gives great exercises on forgiveness as well as other problem areas for people. My mother is a recovered alcoholic. I had a lot of resentment for her. My brother is 7 years younger than me, and at the height of our mother's drinking he was only 2, so he doesn't have the same memories I have of her drinking. I resented how happy he is, and how much other people love him. That was a big struggle of mine. I've learned, through reading this and other books, to identify things that were causing me unhappiness. Louise also teaches us not to envy other people's successes, or wish to be like other people. Embrace the amazing person you are. The more we learn to love ourselves, the more people will love us. I don't think this book is the entire journey, but its a great stepping stone in my journey of learning to love myself, let go of the past, and stop being envious of others. Review: Wonderful - This book is a real gift. I will keep returning to it. What a wonderful lady, full of important insights and encouragement.

A classic and helpful book
I bought this book years ago, but wanted it on my kindle too. You Can Heal Your Life is a powerful book about self-healing. The emphasis is on your thoughts- loving yourself, forgiveness, taking responsibility for your life. There is also a list of illnesses and the emotional cause in the back of the book. One of my favorite parts of the book is her approach to affirmations. A problem that people experience with affirmations is when you say, "I am wealthy and healthy" And you are in fact in a lot of debt and sick... it feels like a lie when you say it. In order to make a positive affirmative statement believable ... it is helpful to step your way into it. Her process is to first recognize resistance- if you have a situation in your life that you don't like... it is there because on some level you need it to be there- maybe because it is part of a pattern that has become very comfortable... you know it - it seems like you. So in the case of the wealthy and healthy affirmation... Start with - I release the need to be sick and in debt. The next step is - I deserve.... I deserve to be healthy and wealthy... The next step is I am... I am healthy and wealthy. Then add- I love myself, I approve of myself. I am willing to change. (Repeat- until you feel a shift). The hard part of the book is that you face the fact that your life is the way it is because you created it that way. If your situation is miserable... you automatically think- I would never create my own life to be this bad. If you can get past wanting to blame circumstances and other people- you will find remarkable shifts through practicing the ideas in this book. And no need to beat yourself up... I believe we are all doing the best we can with what we know at the time. When we know differently on the soul level- we will "be" differently and show up differently in our lives. This is a book that I re-read every year... each time I read it- I take it in a little deeper and have deeper shifts.

Good points mades
I think this book is an excellent read. Depending on your life, certain parts of the book won’t pertained to you. Also the part Of the book that spoke of the diseases and their causes and cures, I didn’t quite agree. Nevertheless; I took some things and affirmation from it, which I have been using. Which I think is positive on the mind and great for keeping in good mental health. Both Hay and Deepak Chopra share a similar sentiment, which I like - do everything possible to fix your thinking, or in other words mental health.

The message is quite simpel: Love yourself, always. No matter what. Your life will change dramatically. Reading this clear and kind book, I found myself in a whole other dimension of self-love. Louises words are like medicine and are lingering in my head and heart months after reading this book. They probably will for years to come.

This is a very easy read. I must admit I enjoyed reading this book. The author Louise Hay takes a motherly approach and guides you on how you can heal the pains from your past, break all emotional attachments with the past and live in the present with no resentments. I was quite shocked with some of the discoveries I made while reading this book. First of all, I do not believe I had a horrible childhood. But Louise explains how our childhood experiences especially the attitude of our parents have an impact on our lives. One of the things that strikes me is a statement which was something to the effect of “the relationships you have with people have a striking resemblance to the relationship you had with your parents growing up”. Which I find to be true. Louise expounds on areas like this masterfully. In the foreword there is a striking statement “If you were stuck on an island with one book, this would be it!” now I don’t think I would go as far as to say that, but that being said this book has had an impact on my life that is profound. For me the most significant thing that I take from this book is the power of affirmations. The book is full of them. Louise explains how affirmations are the key to changing your subconscious beliefs. I have had the belief that “I am not good enough” for many years but with the help of this book I am well on my way in breaking this chain. Because we attract what we believe into our lives.

A fantastic book that makes you understand how emotion and stress allow illness to happen. Eg stressed catch cold or flu. It is good to be more aware of your emotions as they affect mood. It's a useful tool so you can look at your life and see how you can shift your moods. It also makes you look at your perception in relation to emotions. It's a good guide to emotional awareness and how to think about it fifferently. It's very useful to have this as a way of starting self help or augmenting existing therapy. It also is very accepting of where your at in terms of your mental health. It's a sliding scale that's so variable but this book helps with awareness.
