Q: I have about 83" of clearance (just shy of 8ft) in my basement. Do you think that's enough to do pullups on this?

I see this question is old, but I wanted to answer for other buyers that might get confused. An 8 foot ceiling is perfect height that will allow full range of motion. However, an 8 foot ceiling is 96 inches. Your ceiling is 83 inches, which is actually just shy of 7 feet, not 8. You wouldn't be able to do "normal" pull-ups with a ceiling that low.

Q: is this thing better than a doorway pull up bar? is it sturdy enough? The video say 250, is that true?

This tower is 100% better than a doorway bar. even if you just do pull ups on the tower and leave out the dips, pushup, abs option it's better. i used to have a doorway pull up system but i took a chance buying the tower and i am so happy i did. The sturdiness of the tower was a big concern of mine before i bought because i thought something that was this cheap wouldn't be solid but it is. i don't do those swinging style pullups like the cross fitters do but i think the tower could take them, it would tip over before it would break. the 250lb weight limit is just a precautionary number it will hold a lot more. i do pullups and dips every other day with a 50 lb vest and i weigh 220 and i have had the tower 2-3 months and i have only tightened the bolts a minimal amount one time.

Q: What is the width between the dip handles?

The width between the dip handles is 21 inches from the inside of one dip handle to the inside of the other dip handle.

Q: Would it be possible to do full russian dips on this, down to the elbows and then back to the shoulder blades, or would this tip it over?

i do not think it would be tip over but that handle bar (middle)on this tower not that long so you won't be able to do russian dips at all (you need a longer bar when you moving your body up or down during russian dips and this thing(bar) is not enough long to put(place) your elbows on the bar (i just tried it but doesn't work) ,it is good for regular dips that's all,i hope you can find something als for russian dips,Cheers!
