Q: no instructions included. How do you adjust and use this?

Dear Customer, we don't have instructions inside, because our dual head is easy to adjust length by unscrewing and screwing middle adjustable ring to adjust your best tamping height, our listing shows how it works, you can refer images and description to guide you how to use, below is how it works: STEP 1 - Load your portafilter basket with the desired amount of freshly ground coffee. STEP 2 - Retract the distributor side to it's shallowest depth, and place the distributor on your portafilter, blade side down. STEP 3 - Gently spin the distributor until your coffee grounds have been evenly distributed and leveled. If the distributor does not reach the coffee, adjust the depth accordingly. Note: you do not want to be applying heavy pressure to the grounds at this stage -- only enough to level the coffee in the basket. STEP 4 - Flip the distributor over and extend the tamper (flat side) to its maximum height. Tamp your grounds to your desired pressure. STEP 5 - For consistent tamping every time, adjust the tamper depth so it matches the depth of the tamp you created in Step 4. Note: Height is easily adjustable by it's screw mechanism (no grub screws ,shims, or Allen keys required) to suit different doses or baskets, you can set desired tamping depth for consistent tamping pressure every time. Q: Does this replace the need for a wdt tool?

Dear customer, WDT tool and this distributor & tamper both can reduce espresso channeling issue and improve extraction, you can first use wdt tool to stirr espresso grounds then use our distribution tool to tamp espresso.

Q: does this work with the smeg espresso machine's portafilters?

Nope, this 53mm coffee distribution tool doesn't work with smeg machine.

Product definitely of a high quality - weight, finish, and build is all high. Functions great - only issue is there are no instructions so if you don't know how to adjust/calibrate then you need to watch a Youtube video or search online

Highly recommend as it's able to do 2 jobs. Slightly heavier than expected but that also mean you don't need to put as much pressure with a conventional tamper.
