It looks like they use small staples on the one we have. I just don't want our cat to get injured on sharp objects. Thanks.** A: It depends on the size of the surface really. I used this to cover a 2x4 for 24" tall. I coated the wide sides of the board in a thick caulk in 3 lanes that gave it something to grip to the surface of the board. I then wound it tightly and used staples on the thin sides of the board. The cats always approach the wide side that has just the caulk but the tension of the rope with the reinforcement from the sides has held up for over a year. I used a single screw at the very start to pin the rope into the board and again at the end to secure it in place. **Q: Is this untreated? Would it be safe to use as hot pipe insulation in my 1 year old son's room? Thanks!** A: It is untreated, and it should be OK if it's just covering a warm pipe- I wouldn't use it on anything that might get up to the point of lighting it on fire. Perhaps you could insulate the pipe, and then wrap it with rope. **Q: I want to make a scratching post for my kitten but I don't want anything treated with chemicals. Does anyone know if this rope is treated?** A: I don't know for sure, but I use mine to re-cover the scratching post when the cats destroy what's on their play-tree. I didn't save the packaging to check for you, but I haven't had any problems with the cats since I bought it. **Q: This isn't treated? are you sure? all of the sisal rope that i've found is weather treated for outdoor use and it is harmful to animals!!** A: The sisal rope sold by Rushazzled is not treated. We covered the existing cardboard legs on the tree with new cardboard tubes slit down the side, then I used a hot glue gun to anchor the rope over it. 2 of these rolls took care of the bottom level of the kitty tree, and I will order 2 more for the top level.The rope is "raw" - no waxing or chemicals that I could discern.
