Good size. Good heat. Good times!
Love the Radiate! Simple to light and the fire is up to max size fairly quickly...certainly quicker than a traditional wood campfire; regardless of any fire starter that can be used. At the max the flame gets up to a few feet high with no wind. I have not tried it placing multiple Radiates next to each other to see if that makes the flame higher. Do not be deceived, for the size this thing puts out some heat. Dead winter in the Pacific Northwest and I can sit outside for ~30mins and be comfortable a few feet away from a single Radiate. It will certainly keep your legs very warm if youโre a few ft away from it. Iโd say 3 to 4 people could comfortably sit around it and all get plenty of heat. Virtually no smoke and what smoke there is, it is a neutral to pleasant smell...certainly will not make your cloths stink. And it resolves the biggest discomfort of traditional fires: where any wind change can result in a face full of smoke and burning eyes. Wind changes are now pleasant as it just gives you a boost of heat without stinging eyes. Without question, the easiest and most convenient part of the Radiate is putting the fire out! Just slide the lid right over it. ***Beware: there will be lots of smoke that will billow out once the flame is extinguished*** The instructions say to not use indoors and I would absolutely adhere to that, even though Iโd love to light it in my garage. If you are like me and do not necessary enjoy extendedly long camp/bonfires, donโt appreciate smoke hitting your eyes with a wind change, stinky cloths afterwards and the hassle of putting out fires/dealing with embers, I would say the Radiate would well worth a try! So far the most enjoyable use I have found from the Radiate is sitting around it with a good cigar!

I am amazed
Used these camping because of a fire ban in the area. Set it on a fireproof table, lit it and it was just like we had built a campfire. Used one for 4 hours the first night then snuffed it out with the lid. Second night I relit it and it lasted bout an hour. Just popped a new one on the table and lit it and instant campfire. Everyone was amazed by how it looked and how much heat it put out. Amazing product! I also was looking at the reviews posted by others. Someone gave a 1 star review because the didn't clearly read the instructions on how to use it and pored water on it. Wax floats on water and will create a huge fire ball, but they assumed they were smart enough to not read the instructions to use a portable campfire. It's no ones fault but your own that you burned up a $600 umbrella. Give me a break! Wow! 10 stars from me and I read the instructions to make I wasn't going to burn anything down. And the lid is plenty big enough to douse the flames. Slide it from the side and it goes out immediately. And yes I checked about the fire ban and was approved to use it. I love this product.

Excellent, but limited life
I would love to give this a five star rating as it works just as advertised and makes a great place to sit around outdoors. My removing one star is due to the lack of information as to how it can be recharged. I would guess the burn time as about five to six hours before the wax runs out. Thirty bucks is a lot to spend for a six hour fire. The good news is that the life can be extended greatly, possibly eternal if the soy wax is replenished. I ordered soy wax from Amazon , seventeen bucks for a big bag, and have now refilled the container. I think the manufacturer is missing out on a great opportunity to sell the wax directly with instructions on how to use it. I did think highly enough of this to buy one for my son and will be sending him a bag of soy wax so his family can keep on enjoying it.

Convenient, Long-Lasting, and Perfect for Any Outdoor Occasion!
The Radiate XL Portable Campfire is an absolute game changer! I love how it provides the warmth and ambiance of a traditional fire without the hassle of setting one up. The extra-large 8-inch size makes a huge differenceโit burns for up to 5 hours, which is much longer than any other portable fire pit Iโve used. Whether itโs for a night by the beach, camping, or even a cozy evening on the patio, this is my go-to! What sets this apart is that itโs smoke-free and made from recycled soy wax and paper briquettes. No more dealing with smoky clothes or irritated eyesโjust a clean, warm flame. Plus, itโs super easy to reuse: you can snuff it out with the lid, let it cool, and take it along for the next adventure. Itโs perfect for any outdoor occasion, and I love that itโs made in the USA. If youโre looking for a reliable, portable fire pit thatโs bigger, brighter, and better than anything else out there, this is it!

A bit expensive, but well worth it in certain situations
I understand that this is not a replacement for a real, wood-burning fire. I also understand that I could make one myself with a cookie tin, leftover wax candles, and some corrugated cardboard or egg cartons. However, sometimes you get to a camping spot late at night, or they ran out of firewood at the last stop you made before hitting the forest, or you want a nice little backyard fire for entertaining guests but don't own a fire pit. These are all the reasons this little thing works so well, and is totally worth the price to keep on hand for those situations. The fire is warm enough for 2 or 3 people, and the flames average about 18 inches high. It puts out the light and warmth of a small wood fire, but without the sparks or smoke. It lit super easily and stayed lit until we snuffed it out after about 2.5 hours (it looks to be about halfway spent now. We were using it in the mountains where they say it has up to a 5-hr burn time, which appears accurate). And as for the high cost and the "just make one at home" folks: A) Firewood can also be expensive -- especially when you're like me and buy the good oak stuff instead of that smokey, moist, sparky pine junk. And it takes up a lot of room. B) What kind of real people with jobs, kids, etc. have the time, resources, or patience to make one themselves, let alone with food-grade wax that doesn't smell and can be cooked over? Yes, I'm sure it's cheaper, but sometimes the price we pay for convenience is well worth it and I think this is one of those times. Anyway, I'm an avid camper and love my wood fires. This will never replace them. But sometimes having a backup like this is a blessing on the trail. When I used it, it kept two people warm and happy on a night that dipped down into the low 30s. It was super easy to light, and snuffed out in about 3 seconds with the lid slipped over. I'll be buying another to keep as a spare, and might try refilling this one as a project to help spread out the investment. Highly recommend! Oh, and it does get pretty hot -- after all, this is a fire in a can. Don't blame the manufacturer when you put it on a heat-sensitive surface and ruin your patio furniture. Have some common sense. Happy camping!

This was perfect for our camping trip to Dry Tortuga! On the beach with our own mini campfire!

Good, but doesn't last. Hereโs a few key safety tips.
We bought this to use in our front yard since we will often sit on the front porch but donโt have room for a fire pit like the backyard. It's great, and I loved the reusable nature of it, in theory. In reality, we got less than 2 hrs burn-time when it advertises 5. A few key things to stay safe and they impact how you want to use this: - Make sure itโs on dirt ground or concrete, metal, brick, etc. We had it on a plastic table and the bottom of the tin does get very toasty. We opted to slide a ceramic dinner plate under it and that was perfect. No burn-through. - Donโt move it! The surface boils, like a molten candle. Youโll hear little pops as the liquid moves around. Itโs super dangerous to move and Iโd highly advise against it. - It takes awhile to cool down. I usually leave it outside. If youโre camping, Iโd recommend just leaving it where you lit it and grabbing it in the morning. Be careful and itโs a ton of fun. Expect a single burn nowhere near as long as advertised. The tin advertises 3ft flames which is absurd. Ours, maybe, got a foot and a half high. Which is still plenty. 3ft would be terrifying.

Disappointing
Pros: Great size and makes a large flame Attractive tin Easy to light and extinguish Doesn't blow out easily from wind once lit Cons: Would NOT recommend for roasting marshmallows. We ran an event with a s'mores bar, and I was embarrassed to use these. They looked great, but gave off such horrible black smoke that people were jokingly commenting on how they were going to get "carcinogenic poisoning" from these. The marshmallows wouldn't even roast - they just came out covered in black soot. You can see from my photo the black smoke that came off these things. The horrible smell was also over-powering. The wax run-off from these are insane. I had one on a table, and almost immediately the wax started overflowing on to the table - perhaps these are too full? We eventually had to move it down into the snow because it became a hazard. The fires SPIT hot wax very aggressively. From down in the snow, several people standing 5 feet away got splattered. (Video) It's a shame, as I REALLY wanted to love these.

Loved it!
This portable fire was amazing. I bought it when I had a camping trip planned and there was a campfire ban in effect. It was great!! We even roasted a few marshmallows on this and it wasn't bad - there is quite a bit of soot, though. Still, it was totally worth the price. Super convenient, easy to put out, warm and cozy. I will definitely buy more of these to use in our backyard!

Perfect for the city life
Only used it once so far and it was much better than expected! I was worried about being disappointed but it burns really nicely and crackles... we set it up on a little round table to feel closer to it but it's not so small that it can be mistaken for a candle. I would recommend!
