Review: Want a DASH-CAM? Buy a GoPro Hero 4 Silver. - This GoPro is expensive and worth every penny. I bought this camera to use as a dash cam and I'm blown away by its capabilities. The GoPro can be used for any purpose one can imagine and there are mounts for every purpose as well. Many of the excellent YouTube videos are produced by a GoPro. The mechanical engineering of this piece is exceptional and extends to the mounts included with the original purchase. There are more settings at this time than I can remember but the simple basic settings and the defaults produce excellent, sharp, clear and colorful videos of whatever the camera is aimed at. Night photos are also excellent. I purchased the GoPro 4 Silver because it has the viewing screen at the back which makes it simple to aim the camera perfectly to get the best views of the road traveled. This rear screen is especially nice when initially setting up the camera on a permanent adhesive mount most often stuck to the front window in the center to one side of the rear view mirror. The rear screen makes it easy to mount the adhesive in the perfect position on the first try. I spent a few days getting up the courage to finally mount the GoPro PERMANENTLY ON MY FRONT WINDSHIELD using the very permanent 3M mount (supposedly easily removed by heating it up first). I've never mounted anything permanently to my front windshield and even had a hard time adding cup holders to a car that didn't come with them. My fear was unfounded because the rear screen made it easy as pie to position and aim the camera and mark the exact spot that gave me the best view of the road in front, keeping in mind I'd have to remove the camera whenever I left the car. No problem here. The GoPro 4 Black is an extra $100 for a few more setting details but then you have to buy a separate rear LCD screen for another $100 or so if you want the same capability for ease of installation if you want to use your GoPro as a Dash Cam. I picked the GoPro Silver from the beginning because I called the company and asked them which camera they recommended for use as a Dash Cam. When I called I knew NOTHING about dash cams or about GoPros. When the GoPro arrived I was unable to "unbox" the camera until I read the instructions and watched an instructional video on YouTube, titled "unboxing your new GoPro - for beginners". I say this to emphasize that this was my first experience with a Dash Cam. I never saw a GoPro up close until mine arrived. Without instructions I'd still have the GoPro boxed up. The attachments and means of attaching the GoPro were different from anything I was familiar with but it all makes perfect sense and ends up easier than most familiar attachments once you see it for the first time. I decided to go with this most expensive Dash Cam (except for the GoPro Hero 4 Black) because I never saw a bad video taken with a GoPro. I'm thrilled I made this decision because everything about the GoPro is exceptional. The GoPro Hero 4 Silver camera has some of the best engineering I've seen on any electronics product I've purchased over many years, including digital cameras and computers. The quality of materials is also superior. With all the exceptional features and capabilities, this camera is easy to set up and use. It is a simple camera and it does what it claims to do and does it exceptionally well. Once I got myself to take the step of a permanent front windshield mounting, I was set up and ready to go. All I need to do is press the button to start the video and remember to remove the camera once I've arrived at my destination. The quick mounts and disconnects make this simple. The GoPro is suggested as a Dash Cam only for users who already own one because there are Dash Cams selling for $29.95, making the GoPro 10x as expensive. This is bad advice! Once a person buys a GoPro it's only a matter of time before other uses for this camera show up. The GoPro is so exceptional it can be easily used to memorialize any activity one is accustomed to performing. The GoPro photos and videos are so excellent a person is encouraged to find new uses for the GoPro all the time. All that's necessary is the purchase of a specialized mount. Many mounts can be used for multiple purposes. For instance, I may want to mount my GoPro on a headrest. I found the mount used to attach a GoPro to one's head, hat or helmet is perfect for attaching to my headrest. This is a great place to mount a camera to watch out the rear window if one wants full coverage. I'm thinking of buying a second GoPro for this, but first I have to save up many pennies. This is what happens when one has the capability to take excellent quality videos and photos with little effort. If you are thinking of buying your first Dash Cam, I suggest going with the best. Spend the money and buy a GoPro. You will be inspired to find many other uses for this marvelous little camera once you see how easy it is to use to take perfect photos and videos.
Review: For a Casual User, this HERO4 Silver Rocks! Great Camera & Video Quality. - While I've always wanted a GoPro, I've never used one or even played around with one until purchasing (justifying the purchase)this GoPro HERO4 Silver. I am a casual user. I cannot talk/compare in 4k or that kind of description/comparison. My review is intended for the casual user who wants a waterproof action camera that is easy to use without having to read a thick instruction manual. I chose the Silver 4 because of the 12mp still images, the video quality & the Touchscreen LCD back. I like the LCD back because that is what I'm familiar with using my digital camera. The touchscreen back is not super sensitive & I have to press hard (through the case) for the screen to respond. Just remember that the display will lock if left untouched, so you will have to go through the unlock procedure again if you want to change from camera to video or access the screen options (touch top middle of screen & slide finger down - that will get you to the unlock feature, which is a slide down & hold feature). Unfortunately, my digital camera is not waterproof, so I decided that a small, waterproof/water resistant camera should be added to my collection. Since I was about to embark on a trip that involved ziplining, rafting, parasailing & a rainforest, I decided that a GoPro would be an ideal camera. The HERO4 Silver is a great little camera. I am still not completely using all of its features - the remote being the next item on my "to-learn" list - but the features I used - camera & video - produced beautiful, clear pictures & video. I used the clip to place the GoPro on both my zipline helmets & rafting helmet, and I used a homemade modified strap to wrap around my hand while parasailing. On all, since I wasn't submerging in water below 10', I used the camera housing that allowed for Touchscreen use. Camera battery lasted about 1-1/2 hours because of using the LCD screen off and on. As stated earlier, I still have to get use to using the remote app. I chose not to with my last adventure because I didn't want to carry my phone on a zip line, a white water raft or while parasailing. I will update this review as I go, but I'm very happy with the camera & video quality of the HERO4 Silver. Downloads to my tablet & computer were simple and no special software is required to view since the files are mp4. Overall, the HERO4 Silver is pretty easy to understand & use - even for those who are not photography experts.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Seems like the remote is a must, so really this will cost another 80 bucks...?**
A: The remote is waterproof but has the same function with GoPro app in smart devices. You decide if it worths 80 bucks but for me yes i bought it and used it so much in water.

**Q: Does this include the remote control and waterproof case?**
A: No remote included, however the free GoPro app is more useful then the simple remote that is a separate purchase where the app is free, the silver standard edition at least (not the music or sport models) comes with the clear case with three back doors that make the case either non waterproof or water proof to a certain degree, the skeleton door allows easier use of the touchscreen but is not waterproof, then touchscreen back door is only good for 10 meters or 30 feet, and then the full waterproof back door is good for 131 feet which is perfect for scuba and other deep diving scenarios, where the touchscreen door is good for snorkeling and free diving to 30 feet, I hope this answers hour question

**Q: does the battery charger come with the camera, and if not, how do you charge it?**
A: It comes with a usb charging cable, you can charge the camera by computer USB port or you can use most any other usb wall charger from smart phones or other types of usb devices used by things like cameras, usb accessories, smartphones, iPhones or multi port usb chargers.. I bought a nice little four port usb charger for my phones and other items that charge by usb and it charges the camera pretty fast, I bought it here on Amazon and it works for all my usb devices so check it out, it's pretty inexpensive, I think I paid $15.00 to $20.00 for it and it works great for all my usb devices

**Q: Just ordered this camera. What else do we need to order to make it minimally functional for an upcoming vacation? How many hours does battery last?**
A: Wow hmm good question, for starters I'd order a desktop battery charger, I ordered a dual bay small desktop charger that came with a spare battery and the charger and a USB Cable, and the dual bay charger also has a third pop up charging port specifically for the GoPro remote, so get that and order one more spare battery so you'll have a total of 3 batteries, I'd also order a couple extra SD cards and a multi accessory pack that has adapters and accessories for underwater filming, selfie sticks, floatation buoy mount and a case to hold it all, and quite a few more items including a case to hold it all in so those would be the base setup that would probably cover most vacation moments with spare parts and extras you might need in a pinch, I mean it's more then you probably would need but it's nice to have them just in case and with a total of three batteries you could film pretty much all day for 8 to 12 continuous hours of video or possibly more? and then the extra memory cards are the equilivelent of spare video tapes for a standard video camera so hope this helps you or someone else, the nice thing is you can get an accessory pack and a case and spare batteries for maybe an additional $60.00 or a bit more depending on how much you want to spend you can get more items for less or fewer items for more money? But if you shop around you can get the most bang for the buck

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works very well so far and in great condition
*by F***N on March 31, 2020*

My start with a Gopro camera started with the original over 12 years ago. At that time, the unique features were the small size, ability to mount almost anywhere, and the extreme wide angle. The video quality of that first generation camera was very poor and the super wide angle was the only good thing about it. Of course, Gopro has come a long way since then and they are still on top when it comes to action cameras. The next Gopro I bought was the 2014 Hero basic model. For me, that camera worked great even with the internal battery and the video quality was very good and sharp. I unfortunately got it wet about 3 years ago and couldn't bring it back to life. I bought a few Apeman A80 cameras. They are very dependable for a cheap price, but you will not get a wide angle whatsoever with that camera even with the 170 degree setting. Also the video quality up close is decent but overall is poor compared to a Gopro. So finally my review of the Gopro Hero 4 Silver. It is an amazing little camera with wide sharp video and very good realistic color saturation. Just what I needed and a big upgrade from the Apeman. The LCD screen on the back works flawlessly and the quick capture function means I can just tap one button to record and and then tap off again, perfect while making my fishing videos. Since the camera is on a stable mount I don't have to worry about stabilization which this camera doesn't have, the video is smooth without any shakiness. Finally if I were selfish and was planning on buying another Gopro Hero 4 Silver, I might not mention Southtown Camera, who sent me a camera in great shape that I have confidence in. Thanks to them. You will not be sorry in 2020 if you buy this camera over all the Apemans and Akasos with limited field of view and inferior video quality. Great little camera.
