That is the only adjustable part on it. The "knot" is fixed and not able to be moved. It is really thin and flimsy. The material reminds me of my mammaws old fake silk scarf. The tie is about 17 inches long. The straps that velcro around the neck are about 6 inches on each side. We bought it to fit a 8 year old, and it will fit with a little room to spare.
