I matched with a class A preamp with great success.
I have a very good integrated Tube / class A preamp (Vinnie Rossi 100 watt @ 8 ohm) matched with a pair of Fleetwood Deville speakers that are warm and somewhat efficient at 94 db sensitivity. I wanted a bit more grip on the lower end and decided to try out these monoblocks coming out of the preamp and bypassing the class AB section of the integrated amp. The sound was excellent. For the price of these amps I can't believe how they have improved upon the sound of an already very good sounding systems. I could see how in a all class D system they could be bright and lacking "air" but matched properly the value and sound is off the charts in my IMHO.

Not all that
They honestly are not that spectacular. I bought a pair used to replace my Crown DC300A. They are brighter than my Crown and are remarkably louder but they posses no warmth or illusion of headroom. I previously own a McIntosh MC7270, 270W a channel, and it was very dynamic and engaging. Maybe the class D amps make PS Audio a tad sterile or maybe I am just a big Mac fan. If I had to do it over I would have spent the two-grand on another McIntosh. Make sure you audition them before shelling out a ton of money.
