It's weighty so it's good for chopping. I tested this by using it to cut off a 3 or 4 inch branch from the tree in my yard. I used the branch to baton a bigger chunk of wood. Held its edge. No chipping. No rolls. Still sharp. Cut through paper after all that testing. Very well balanced. The grip could be a little thicker but I have larger hands so.
