This is southern Florida, so the soil here is rocky and has natural lime stone, the lime stone we couldn't dig out we covered with moist soil and mud, we did this before we laid the material in. With the weight of pebbles and water, it began to mold almost immediately. Also, we did this around 7pm, sun setting afternoon, by mid-day, the heat from the sun will further aid the material to molding around the opening. The remaining material I'd recommend one not to cut, we placed decorative concrete stones around it and over the excess, used soil from the hole to fill in around and over material and then mulched it to further hold it down.
