Made My First Half A Success!

*by T***S on Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2012*

Bit of background: I'm 25, female, and have calves of DOOM and I recently decided to go from 5k runner to Half Marathon Runner. (Notice the capitalization.)I bought these socks after spraining my Planter tendon in my foot 3 weeks before the San Diego Half Marathon. My first run with these was the marathon itself, as my physical therapist told me I shouldn't do any running after my injury. I was determined to still run the race, and finish in my goal time, though, so she told me I could run/walk the race. She also suggested I get myself a pair of compression socks, so I ordered the CEP running socks a week before my race. I tried them on when they arrived and could immediately tell a difference with my foot. It just felt better.I'm pretty positive these socks made my race happen. I finished 30 seconds below my goal time, and that's even with 3 weeks of no running! I ran/walked the race per my therapist's suggestion, but still ended up running for about 80% of it and felt fine afterwards. I wore the socks for 2 hours before I started running and then didn't take them off until my massage later that afternoon. I felt so good immediately after my race, not only did I run to catch a taxi, I biked 8 miles on the hotel's crappy rental bikes after lunch! These things were so comfortable I wore them the next day for my flight. That's saying something, folks, as I hate, hate, HATE socks. Now, I have massive calves. Years of biking and running have made them beasts in and of themselves. They're 18" around at their widest point, which means I ordered the largest size with a half inch over what they recommend. The calve still fit, though, and I wore them for about 8 hours all told with no discomfort. My only complaint about these is the foot of the sock. It's a little too big for my foot, but it makes sense that that would be the case as I ordered the largest size.

    good for POST work out

I am an avid runner of 20+ years...recently starting having shin splint issues, I read reviews stating these socks helped with that. They do help, but do NOT remove all pain associated with shin splints during a run. My splints begin around mile 2 with these socks and without them at 1/2 a mile. I am able to continue my run most of the time. The true beauty of the socks come in post run. Shin splints subside very quickly with the sock without the need for pain medication. I recommend product for that reason. But don't expect to not have shin splints anymore. These are not a cure for that.

This product delivers what it promises

I began researching compression socks when I started having cramping in my calves during races and long training runs. After reading reviews on various products from various sources, the CEP brand seemed to come out on top. They seemed pretty pricey, but, as usual, Amazon had the best price I could find, so I ordered a pair. During the first time I wore them, I noticed I did not suffer from the usual calf pain during my run, and my recovery seemed faster. Since then, I have worn them during every race and every long run. I liked them so much, I bought a second pair. These socks are sized based on the circumference of your calf, not your foot size. In my particular case, that makes the foot part a little big, but not so big as to create bunching or wrinkling in my shoes. (I wear a size 8 running shoe). Overall, they fit well. Because of the serious compression material, putting them on and taking them off require a little getting used to. But, once you get used to the technique and they have been washed a couple of times, they are about as easy to slide into and out of as regular socks are. I highly recommend them.
