## Description

This French thriller is the directorial debut of Jean-Jacques Beineix. Jules (Frédéric Andréi) is a Parisian mail courier in possession of two highly sought-after tapes: the first contains a rare recording of American opera singer Cynthia Hawkins (Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez), with whom he has fallen in love; the second is a tape slipped into his bag by a young woman just before she is murdered. The unwitting Jules thus finds himself being pursued by Taiwanese bootleggers and a thuggish gang of drug dealers who will do anything to get their hands on the cassettes.

Review: Absolute classic and a total joy - Just sheer pleasure from start to finish. I saw this when it was new and loved it, watching it again with friends who had not seen it before we all loved the visual quality, the humour, the characters (you want thuggish gangsters, Diva has the best camp gangster thugs ever) A romantic thriller about opera and Paris featuring a postal delivery boy on a moped and an actual Diva, with a side serving of Deus ex Machina, artistic shoplifting, high speed chase, blackmail and police corruption.

Just sheer pleasure from start to finish. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ What's with the double translation?

The film is terrific but the version presented by Amazon is marred by having both English subtitles and poor American-accented English dubbing. The two translations differ considerably, causing confusion for the viewer, particularly over the clashing nicknames for some characters. It would have been better to have the original French soundtrack with English subtitles.
