For some strange reason the people marketing this wonderful little device have done all they can to make it look bigger in their photos. Ironically this was one thing that got me questioning whether to buy it or not. I've just looked over the posting again and it says its 117 mm long which is way smaller then you'd think going by the picture of it being held up against a wall. The fact that it's so small, seems smaller then 117mm, and the fact that it weighs next to nothing, means that sure enough, this thing absolutely sticks to walls and ceilings that contain drywall screws at the normal depth, ie. 3mm - 6mm. You practically have pry the thing away from corner beads, and i'm gonna make sure never to put it in the same pocket as my phone coz this magnet sure as hell is strong. Works perfectly. Of course it only detects ferrous material at a certain depth. So if the bloke that built and boarded the stud wall wasn't very good he probably won't of put any screws in the noggins, so you won't be finding them. Also if the walls were constructed way way out of plumb or not straight enough, you'll find sometimes that someone else has come along and straightened things out with plaster. This will of course increases the depth of the screw depending on how far out things were in the first place. That said though, the vast majority of walls are built well, and its nearly always studs we're after. This will tell you for sure if there is a screw holding board to a stud. Have used it many times now to great effect. Will never be without one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good little gadget... *by T***2 on 12 August 2016* Prior to buying this "gadget" I tested the theory behind it with a quite powerful medical magnet and it found a few nails in a stud - the location of which I knew for certain. This does the job even better as it's quite compact, and has two powerful magnets a couple of inches apart; and thus enables one to bracket a probable nail/screw etc.; and it's also lighter and easier to use. It also worked reasonably well through a layer of bathroom tiles affixed to hard board surface nailed to the studs - by Bodger Bill the builder almost 50yrs ago I guess. In this case one has to be a wee bit more patient and sensitive to the change in pull of the magnet when it locates a nail/screw; but it does find them. One might benefit by using a keeper for the scanning pole surfaces? I seem to recall (school physics) that magnets retain their flux (strength) longer if they have a suitable metal surface applied to them when in storage?
