Review: Very colourful, and an amusing story - I was attracted by the colourful artwork, so I bought two copies, cut up the pages, and stuck them on coloured cardboard without the text, and typed the story to read to my primary school second language English pupils. They really liked it, and I was so pleased that I have ordered two copies of the picnic story, too. However, I think that the title could have been a bit more exciting - Rosie’s Adventure, or A Lucky Escape, for instance. I notice that there are lots of assignments available to help with literacy skills, and when I have mastered the art of buying them - or downloading them - they will be an added benefit for the pupils. A simple but effective story. I can’t give an age but the children are seven to eleven, and they are Austrian. The real story is of course in the pictures, not the words, and my 3yo enjoys guessing what calamity will befall the sky fox in his pursuit of the hapless hen. I’ve used this for teaching nursery - year 1. It’s great for positional language with younger children and great for writing recounts with older ones. Children find this book really funny and really enjoy reading it over and over again.
