## Description

Now a movie streaming on Netflix! A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping New York Times bestseller filled with romance, mystery, and adventure that Kirkus Reviews called “a sure bet for fans of romance fiction.” Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything Lina knew about her mother, her father—and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

Review: Incredible read! - In this YA novel, sixteen-year-old Lina travels to Florence to fulfill her mother’s dying wish: to meet and get to know the father she never knew. Wow! There is so much to love about this book. It’s a perfect mix of romance, mystery, and adventure. It’s a genuinely wonderful coming-of-age story about coping with grief, embracing a new culture, and finding yourself in an exciting new place. Lina discovers Italy through her mother’s detailed journal. I loved how young Hadley (Lina’s mom) kept these beautiful journals and scrapbooks and was brave enough to let people read them! What sets this book apart is that it lets you experience an exciting new place through the eyes and heart of a carefree, brave, and thoughtful teen. It makes you remember those feelings you had as a teen, where adults with their worries and busy, boring lives sounded so annoying! This book feels incredibly real. I doubled up on the audiobook and really enjoyed it! It certainly helps with the pronunciation of the Italian words. This was a delightful novel with well-written characters—a feel-good read that was hard to put down.
Review: Italy to live with the man she believes to be her father and she is not quite happy about the arrangement - In an effort to honor her mother's dying wish, Lina is heading to Florence, Italy to live with the man she believes to be her father and she is not quite happy about the arrangement. He is practically a stranger, living in a cemetery. However, after receiving her mother's old journal pertaining to the time she spent in Florence, Lina, along with her newly found friend, Ren, begin a quest to discover the truth about her mother's past and how to proceed with the future. I was about half-way through the book when I realized this story was not going to pack the emotional punch that I was hoping for, The writing itself seemed underdeveloped and basic and I caught several spelling/grammar errors throughout which just adds to my opinion. I also felt that through the first half, Welch failed to truly capture the emotion in the events she was discussing, particularly in the journal entries she provided which felt very light and fluffy and did not carry the weight that they possibly were supposed to. Here we have a young girl who has just lost her mom and is sent to live in a foreign country with a man she has never met. To me, this is a substantive life changes that would seem to very heavy and emotional yet I did not feel that while reading And Ren. Can we talk about him? Cute. Charming. Sweet. He is the epitome of the boy next door and you cannot help but fall for him...but it was almost incredible how for the first half of the story he is her best friend with practically no hint and romantic feelings and then five days later she is in love with him? Don't get me wrong, I totally wanted that relationship to happen, but it seemed very quick and not quite believable. I was not as connected to their story as I'd hoped to be. But then enters the last half of the story which truly blew me away and gave me everything that I could have possibly wanted from this YA contemporary....mostly. Definitely worth the read

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Did I just read a contender for the “Greatest Romance Read?”
*by D***E on December 15, 2025*

I don’t rate books five stars very easily. For me this was an easy six stars read. I adored it and read it in roughly 2 days! The plot was amazing and felt strong. I can’t remember a distinct moment when I was bored or eager to get done with a chapter. I wanted to savor every bit. A few things I feel like I need to address… A lot of people made this book sound like it was for eleven year-olds. Coming from a thirteen year-old I couldn’t disagree more. I feel like this is a perfect YA book for any age group. Whether your eleven or thirty I think this book is great if you like clean contemporary romance books. Also I forgot to mention the mystery aspect of it! The mystery wasn’t scary and it was predictable but fun. It was the cherry on top for the perfect book. Overall great book. The main character didn’t feel too dramatic or emotional. There were also some great moments that made me smile and laugh-out-loud. Great romance book.
