    Amazing Sound, Thrilling Voice

I am not an opera fan & first thought 10 CD's would be quite a lot to listen.  The price was enticing & I got it anyway.  That shimmering brilliant voice & the wonderful sound throughout made my glad I bought it.  Excellent selection.  Highly recommended.

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf è stata uno dei migliori soprano del secolo scorso e senza dubbio la più grande nel repertorio liederistico; la tecnica formidabile così acquisita, unitamente alla gradevole voce e alla bella presenza scenica, le permisero di affrontare con disinvoltura i principali ruoli del repertorio operistico lirico-leggero, primeggiando nelle opere di Mozart e di Richard Strauss.Ora in questo cofanetto della serie “ICON” pubblicato dalla EMI - contenente dieci CD al prezzo di uno solo! - se ne può apprezzare la bravura in un vastissimo repertorio che spazia da Bach a Wolf.Ce n’e’ veramente per tutti i gusti: dalle Cantate di Bach, si passa ai lieder e alle arie da opera di Mozart (tra cui le bellissime arie di Cherubino da Le Nozze di Figaro), nuovamente ai lieder - tra gli altri - di Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Wolf e Strauss (in bella evidenza i “Vier letzte Lieder” ), ad estratti di Arabella e di Rosenkavalier (insuperabile la Schwarzkopf nella parte della Marescialla), al repertorio operettistico di Johann Strauss e di Lehar (anche in questo caso  si ascoltano delizie tratte dal Pipistrello e dalla Vedova allegra), infine a brani e arie sparse che rappresentano altrettante chicche (tra cui “O mio babbino caro” dal Gianni Schicchi, il “Duetto buffo di due gatti” di Rossini eseguito con Victoria de Los Angeles, il “Libera me” dalla Messa da Requiem di Verdi), e così via per oltre dodici ore di ascolto veramente piacevoli.Al suo fianco ovviamente ci sono interpreti d’eccezione nei diversi generi rappresentati, che vanno da Fischer a Moore, da Gieseking a Parsons relativamente ai pianisti che l’accompagnano nei lieder, da Karajan a Szell, da Krips a Bohm nelle arie e nelle opere, da Ackermann a Matacic nel repertorio operettistico; una menzione particolare merita la presenza di Furtwaengler che l’accompagna al pianoforte in 22 lieder di Wolf in una memorabile serata del 1953 ripresa dal vivo al Festival di Salisburgo.Nient’altro da aggiungere, solo un caldo invito a possedere questo cofanetto!
