The outside is durable and clean and the zippers work great. It also opens up pretty nicely too so if you really wanted to, you could lay it down flat like a book to keep your stationary accessible. I really enjoy using it to hold my staedtler colored pens. The notches that hold the pens in place are a bit tight (making it difficult to slide the pens in) but this is also a pro because it keeps my pens from moving around unnecessarily.
