(By the way, this meter works quite well for me.) **Q: Can this measure horizontal or vertical distances like a carpet, stonewall or flagpole?** A: Height on outside walls is going to be a challenge. This device shoots a laser and measures from end to end. Unless you are at the top of that flagpole measuring down, or you're standing on the ground and you hit the small ball at the top, not sure this is going to work. Same thing with the outside wall. This laser has to have something to hit or bounce off of **Q: Will this work to measure distance to the dirt slope/embankment on the opposite side of an excavation? Measuring to ensure boom truck accessibility.** A: Depends on the distance and time. Too far or too bright and the laser will lose too much intensity to measure accurately. **Q: What are the angle measurement capabilities of this unit? Can you measure 0-180 degrees or only 0-90 degrees? Can you zero to measure relative angle?** A: In the upper right corner it will display its angle. I was able to run 0 to 90 and back through the 180 degree range and -.1 to -90 and back. It's well made and while it comes with a book which will tell you all the things it can do, I found it very easy to use right out of the box. The packaging is nice and it even comes with a little protective bag to keep it scratch free and clean in your tool box. The screen is very easy to read and it has a LOT of functions for the price. I saw this being used by a youtuber demonstrating how he sets up his hifi speakers and I HAD to have it! This is my first laser measuring unit like this, but I can say that it appears to be super accurate and the ability to read angles also is going to be very useful! I bought it to plan out when to add posts on back yard for sunshades over a bumpy terrain by myself and this tool made the job a simple task. It displays the last four measurements, so I didn't have to stop and write it down after each measurement. I believe it will save up to 30, but I never needed more than the four for what I used it for. I find myself using this tool more than I ever thought I would. I prefer Bosch and my favorite is a Bosch GLM-80. I like the measurements in decimal form which is easy to input into my CAD software. I also like the angle measure and volumetric functions.That is what I was looking for in this measure. I was most cince5with accuracy. I took several indoor measurements down the length of our warehouse and was pleased to see that the measurements were never off by more than 1/16th of an inch or 0.0625"That is good enough for what I need.Both suck at outdoor measurements beyond the human eye's ability to see a tiny red dot. If the measure can see it, you'll get a reading, but if you can't see it, there's no telling what got measured.I like the lanyard. It was a pain to attach, but I won't be dropping this one as often because of it.My only complaint is that it cannot show imperial measurements in decimal. I have to convert my dimensions to input them into my CAD software.Running off of two AAA batteries is fine. The battery door feels a bit cheap. There does not appear to be any dust or moisture protection, so I'll have to be careful using it outdoors or stuffing it in a sweaty pocket.The velour drawstring bag is fine. I prefer a nylon pouch with a velcro flap, but for the price, I'm happy.This measure is easy to use, easy to read, and easy on the pocketbook.
