The body suit is one piece and it Velcros in the back just like most of the costumes you see out there. The tail does just velcro on with a 1/2" velcro circle. I read one review where it was lost, so I will most likely add a few stitches to prevent that. The hat fits well, not to big or small and it velcros under the neck. Of course he tried to pull it off but couldn't and it didn't rip like the other reviews said. It lasted for 15 min while I put it on him with him trying to sneak away so I figured it did a good job at holding up the first part. Granted costumes are so expensive now at walmart the cheap thin ones are $20 and this is very decent and for what I paid (21.64 free shipping) was well worth every cent. I can't wait until Halloween so I can show him off in this very cute, adorable Mickey Costume. Would the 12 to 18 month be to big on him?** A: I guess it depends on your sons measurements. My son will be 13 & 1/2 months on Halloween and he is in the 50 percentile for his age. The costume will be big overall, but I'm putting a long sleeve shirt and pants on under the costume (Oct. 31st is usually pretty cold in Iowa) So hopefully that will help. **Q: Is the good part removable? Or does it only hang behind?** A: It's its own "hat" that hooks under the chin, completely separate from the rest of the outfit. The tail has Velcro as well. **Q: My 13 month old has a very large head (way off the percentile charts). Does anyone have insight on the size or stretch of the hat?** A: Hat doesn't have any stretch.
