It features a sharp point and a contoured and fluted wooden handle used by carpenters and other artisans. - CRAFT AWL: This handy needle tool can help you create your next woodworking masterpiece. Drag the tip of the awl along the grain of the wood, creating a shallow groove, reducing the chances of the hand saw or chisel from wandering across the board. Contoured and fluted hardwood handle - AWL PUNCH: The hand-held tool features a steel blade through the grip and is fastened to a plated steel ferrule and cap. Awls with rounded points can mark the location of holes that will later be made more prominent with a hole punch. - MARKING AWL: It only takes a few seconds to use an awl scratch to make a starting point for a drill bit, which is much less time than it would take to sand out any damage. Our pocket awl can withstand heavy pressure and challenging workloads. - GENERAL TOOLS: We're a recognized leader in designing and developing specialized precision tools dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service. We encourage artisans and DIYers to work smarter, measure better, and repair more productively. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00004T7R3 | | Best Sellers Rank | #794,453 in Home & Kitchen ( See Top 100 in Home & Kitchen ) #25 in Tailor's Awls | | Brand | General Tools | | Colour | Brown | | Country of Origin | USA | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars (4,420) | | Enclosure Material | Wood and Steel | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00038728240477 | | Grit Type | Fine | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 22.2L x 9.5W x 8.3H Centimeters | | Item Weight | 0.2 Pounds | | Manufacturer | General Tools | | Manufacturer Part Number | 818 | | Model number | 818 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | UPC | 038728240477 | | Unit Count | 1.0 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** General Tools - **Colour:** Brown - **Grit Type:** Fine - **Item Weight:** 0.2 Pounds - **Manufacturer:** General Tools - **Material:** Wood and Steel - **Net Quantity:** 1.0 Count - **Number of Items:** 1 - **Number of Packs:** 1 - **Product Dimensions:** 22.2L x 9.5W x 8.3H Centimeters ## Images ![818 Hardwood Handle Scratch Awl - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61G-X+3qtRL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Will this poke a hole in a plastic bottle cover? I'm making crafts.** A: The one I received couldn't Poke a hole in a piece of paper. It was manufactured without a sharp point and I had to use a bench grinder to get it sort of sharp. These aren't real expensive, I wish I had just gone to a hardware and I'm sure they would have something to puncture A bottlecap **Q: Is this awl any good for bookbinding?** A: I don't know bookbinding but if you need a sharp point this is not it. It was supposed to be American made but is made in China. The quality is typical cheap Chinese made. The point is rounded - more rounded than the coarsest ball point pen. **Q: How thick is the metal shaft?** A: I wouldn't really know how to measure this. This is a perfectly good awl except that mine came with extruded metal on the sharp point, a manufacturing mistake. I was able to put it in a bench grinder and get it sharp so I kept it but it doesn't seem like a very solid product to me **Q: Hi good day, does this awl has a metal cap on the handles' base?** A: Hi, it does have a metal base. ## Frequently Bought Together - General Tools Scratch Awl Tool with Hardwood Handle - Scribe, Layout Work, & Piercing Wood - Alloy Steel Blade - Aiskaer Leather Stitching Punch Set, Diamond Chisel Tools, 4mm White Steel 1/2/4/6 Prong for Leather Craft DIY - Aliotech Professional Round Head Leather Edge Burnish Kit Ebony Wood Leather Edge Burnisher Tool for Burnishing Leather Hand Making Projects by Alitech --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.es/products/304418371-818-hardwood-handle-scratch-awl](https://www.desertcart.es/products/304418371-818-hardwood-handle-scratch-awl) --- *Product available on Desertcart Spain* *Store origin: ES* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
