Can you spell words with more than three letters?** A: It really depends on what you are trying to spell. If you are looking to spell a word that only has a 1 consonant ending or a single vowel than yes. But if you are looking to use them to spell words such as wish or shoe, these will not work by themselves, you would also need to have the Tri-Blocks Tub Board Games blocks. I wish I had known this before purchasing these because I would have went with something else. **Q: Capital/upper-case letters included? tia!** A: the ones I have are all lower case, the vowel is red so children know there is vowel in middle. the way they snap together letters,, IE b and D can not get confused, awesome resource for classroom. I teach Kinder and don't find the need for capital needed since trying to teach them only first word in sentence or a name needs a capital. I have the cvc set so it's most likely that won't be first word in sentence. I feel if you need work with capitals this won't work for you. this is for building words. It's great for making beginning sound middle and ending though ! **Q: How many of each letter do you get? I would also like to know how many vowels and consonants come in there. Thanks for the input!** A: Each piece has three sides, each side with a different consonant or vowel so I didn't bother counting them. When the students put the three pieces together they can twist the pieces to create many different CVC words. The beginning consonants are a different shade of blue than the ending consonant and the vowels are red. Also, there is only one way to put the three pieces together so there is no mistaking which is the beginning, medial, and ending sound / letter. I love the hands-on manipulative aspect of this phonics activity and the kids love it. Great purchase. **Q: What's the difference between this and using magnetic lowercase letters? Anyone see a benefit of this format over others?** A: I love how the letters can only be attached to each other in one way. Consonant first (darker blue), vowel next (red), ending consonant last (lighter blue). You cannot put them together the wrong way as they each have little pegs that will only fit into the proper letter that comes either before or after the vowel. Hope this makes sense. It's also good as the students can make a real word but turn the whole thing over and possibly have a nonsense word to decode, or rotate the letters to create a real word. I have mine in a dollar store three compartment clear plastic dip type of tray so the letters are separated. Kids love this activity.
