No more absorbent than a cotton jersey t-shirt. It is a lot wider than I expected from the pictures online (like 4-5 inches)-- if I don't fold it over on itself I feel like it covers up most of my head. This might be better for winter, but in the summer it seems silly. I have a number of other headbands but found that they did slip out of place the more intense my yoga sessions became. I will say that my head is not small...yup I said it, and some of the headbands I have gotten pop off backwards when I wear them. This headband on the other hand, has not done that to me yet. It fits well and stays in place. It is not too tight that it gives me a headache but is just tight enough to stay in place an keep my hair out of my face. I have thrown this in the washing machine each time I have used it and it is still holding up rather well.
