My job occasionally involves forensic work and illicit chemicals almost always play a role.  Trying to keep up to date with the latest trends in the world of black market drug production is never-ending.  This book illustrates the possible link between seemingly innocuous, household chemicals and OTC medicines, and their potential use in drug manufacturing.  In cases where such items are found together, inferences to their intended purpose can be made.  Since criminals are always developing novel methods, one should expect up-dated versions of this book every 3-4 years.

While the completeness of the information exists, the text falls short of providing specifics on how certain substances are used and the implications of their presence in a laboratory or other production facility.  I would have hoped for more than a mere listing of the chemicals used.  Perhaps I would have found greater value in learning how, that is from what common sources, the chemicals are obtained, what they do in the production, i.e. why they are important, and perhaps what substitute chemicals could be used if the most widely used chemicals were unobtainable.
