## Overview

TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat System is a high-build, two-part epoxy primer designed for above and below waterline use. It prevents fiberglass blistering and protects underwater metals with a fast-drying, flexible barrier coat that requires no sanding. Easy to mix and apply by roller or spray, it covers 56 sq. ft. per quart and is available in white or gray. Made in the USA, it’s the go-to marine primer for durable, long-lasting protection.

## Description

TotalBoat TotalProtect is a highbuild epoxy primer for use above and below the waterline. It creates a barrier coat to prevent water absorption and migration, the main cause of blistered fiberglass hulls. It is also an excellent primer for all underwater metals. This 2 part primer can be used with all paints. 3 to 1 mix ratio formula is easy to use, dries quickly, and requires no sanding. After mixing thoroughly, allow an induction period of 15 minutes prior to reduction and application. TotalBoat TotalProtect is a very thick coating that typically needs to be thinned to improve flow, for best results. TotalBoat Epoxy Primer Thinner 200 is the required thinner for TotalProtect. Do not use any other thinner to reduce. TotalProtect is very easy to apply by brushing, rolling, or spraying. If rolling, use a 3/16" nap or foam solvent-safe roller cover, for best results.Available in your choice of White or Gray. Compare to Interlux Interprotect, and Pettit Protect marine primers. All TotalBoat products are designed by boaters, for boaters. 100% made in the USA.

Review: Love the product - Love total boat products have used this epoxy on multiple boat restorations is tough as nails, works well with their other products of course follow the instructions on the website and you’ll get a great easy to use product, this product is durable, a great value for the money, but remember poor surface prep no matter the product will always give poor results
Review: Good two-part epoxy paint - I used this paint on a marine-plywood rowing boat. As an epoxy, it bonds well with wood and with scuffed coast of epoxy. This is my below-the-waterline barrier coat and I'm also using it on the interior planks of the dinghy as a waterproof primer. This paint is the consistency of mayonnaise with not much liquid in the container. You'll want an electric drill-powered paint mixer to thoroughly mix the paint and the catalyst. It rolls on thick and easy and doesn't sag but the finish is not smooth like topside paint. Use as-is to protect fiberglass boat hulls. I'll leave it as-is below the waterline but am using two coats so I can sand it smooth and fill with a primer above the waterline before applying topside paint. Also, the directions say to let the paint sit after mixing. Pot life is long so no need to hurry like you would with 5:1 epoxy.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What thinner is recommended for spraying this product?**
A: John I don't know where in the world you are located but if you are in Calif. you are SOL anything that smells is banned, I'm amazed we can still buy cabbage! This product is very thick and needs a fair amount of thinning to be sprayed the recommended thinner is tot. boat 100 but is or was $16.00 a qt. if you are some where xylene is available that is the way to go remember you will need to spray 3 to 4 coats min. and equipt. clean-up after each coat. Home Depot carries the Klean Strip line of products they may still carry xylene or a product called painter's solvent which is a replacement for xylene, mek, tolulene and naphtha around $18.00 a gal. but of course not in CA. because it smells . The goal with a thinner is to flash off fast enough not to run but not so fast that the paint can level to avoid excess sanding. Read the tech info on the web site, it's all there. Product is excellent when used as designed, worked very well for me. I'm always happy to hear of people who are doing things for their selves if the end result makes you happy then the job is perfect!

**Q: Can you use the topside paint directly on this primer, or do you have to use the topside primer?**
A: Topside paint will work on total protect no problem.

**Q: Can I use this to refinish a porcelain sink?**
A: I would not use this on a sink. Get this for refinishing a sink: https://www.zoro.com/specialty-tubtile-refreshing-kit-white-epoxy-7860519/i/G4358356/?gclid=CI3dpsHuuM8CFdgKgQodO4wJIg&gclsrc=aw.ds

**Q: Will this work in a concrete plywood mold to extend the life of the mold?**
A: Contact Jamestown Distributors for the answer. They manufacture the paint. They have people on staff that are experts on this paint.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good stuff
*by R***Y on September 22, 2024*

Great primer for boat hulls, etc Dries to a tough film overnight yet still easy to sand. Says you can’t apply over a 1 part paint, but I used it over dry, sanded Kilz 3 and it was fine. First gallon I purchased from Amazon. I found out the hard way Amazon paint products are not returnable so I looked around. Thats when I found Jamestown Distributors. Same pricing and delivery timing, but included a paint suit, stir stick, roller & pan, roll of tape, and tack cloth, plus’s 10% discount. Not sure of their return policy, but it can’t be worse and the rest is better. Even shipping. Amazons stuff was all dented, Jamestown’s arrived in perfect condition.
