The letters are magnetic enough to stick to metal surfaces, but not so much that they stick tightly to each other. There are a LOT of letters and numbers in the plastic barrel that they come in, which is great for storage. My grandchildren, who are in various stages of learning letters, numbers, and words LOVE these magnetic letters. Right now they are on the refrigerator, but I plan to purchase small magnetic boards that can be used in places other than the kitchen. The children have created their own ways to play, but Curious Columbus Kids also has some great suggestions for using the letters that would be helpful for various learning levels.
