This would depend on the thickness and the length. Kool-Aid usually works very well with wool, and that seems to agree with the results she seems to have gotten. You need to add a bit of vinegar to the pot when dying. You could make the dreads as long as you want them. I bought this wool for spinning, and expect to dye it with Kool-Aid, but haven't finished spinning it yet. **Q: What is the approximate yardage of this?** A: Yardage isn’t a particularly relevant issue. Whether you are spinning or felting (or pretty well any other use of roving), what you care about is how much fiber you have (weight = 8 oz), because you are going to massively change the amount of air between the fibers and how they are arranged. If you start with 8 oz of fiber in a long narrow rather tight preparation, or if you start with 8 oz of fiber in a floofy loose short prep, you will end up with the same amount of yarn or felt or whatever at the end. How much that is depends on your technique. **Q: Where can I find curly Shetland wool for needle felting?** A: I found mine at doll shows and local farms. **Q: Softness compared to merino?** A: It is a very soft, very clean roving. I haven't had a chance to work with it yet but I'm looking forward to finishing some other spinning projects so I can.
